Bangladesh stars Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah have declined Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020 offers, slated to get underway from August 18 in Trinidad and Tobago. According to the organisers the CPL 2020 will be played behind closed doors but citing family concerns Mahmudullah while Tamim said that the start of CPL 2020 coincides with the Dhaka Premier League.

“One of the teams approached me but since our domestic competition could start any time, that’s why I decided not to go,” ESPNCricinfo quoted Tamim as saying.

The CPL 2020 will be the first franchise tournament to get underway after the hiatus which has panned out due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The league will have a full season with its national team players as the icons. Players like Rashid Khan, Chris Lynn, Carlos Brathwaite, Dwayne Bravo, Alex Hales and Kieron Pollard are set to take part in the tournament.

“The CPL has worked with the Trinidad & Tobago Ministry of Health and the CPL’s own board of medical advisors to create protocols which minimize the risk of transmission of the COVID-19 virus to the population of Trinidad and in amongst those who will be travelling to Trinidad & Tobago from overseas,” the organisers had said in a statement.

Last season the CPL had a digital viewership of 312 million.
