Teams With Most 600+ Totals In Test Cricket

The first-ever Test match was played between England and Australia in 1877 and since then the prime strategy of every team has been to bury their opposition under a truckload of runs.

Australia were the first team that scaled Mount.600 in Test cricket when they racked up exactly 600 against England at the MCG. Since then, teams have scaled the barrier on 156 more occasions, with the highest being 6-952 by Sri Lanka against India in 1997.

Here’s a look at teams’ with most 600+ totals in Test cricket:

Pakistan- 15

Pakistan Cricket may be revered for its prodigious fast bowling talent over the year but they still manage to find their way into the fifth spot as far as scoring the most 600+ totals in the history of Test match cricket.

The Men in Green scaled Mount.600 for the very first time back in 1958 against the West Indies, racking up 8-657. Pakistan’s highest-ever Test total is 6-765 which they achieved against Sri Lanka in that infamous 2009 Test series at home.

Overall, Pakistan has 15 totals in excess of 600 in their cricketing history, four of which have resulted in a win while 11 of them have ended up in a drawn affair.

West Indies- 20

The West Indies might not be the force to be reckoned with, in the current era but such was their dominance in the last quarter of the 20th century that they still find themselves in this coveted list.

The Men from the Caribbean racked up their first-ever 600+ total against India in 1948 during the Delhi Test where they scored 631.

During the course of the next decades or so, the Caribbean Kings have added 19 such scores to their tally, the highest of which 3-790 which they racked up against Pakistan in 1958 thanks to the unbeaten 365 by Sir Gary Sobers.

In 20 instances of West Indies scoring more than 600 runs in Test cricket, they managed to win nine encounters while the remaining ended in a draw.

England- 20

The most experienced team in the history of Test cricket- England- make their way at the third spot with 20 instances of 600+ totals.

The ‘Three Lions’ scaled Mount.600 for the first time in the 1928 Ashes at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where they racked up 636, a game which they eventually won by eight wickets.

Since then, England have scored in excess of 600 on 19 more occasions, the highest of them being the colossal 7-903, which also came against Australia in the 1938 Ashes. Out of the 20 occasions that England have scored in excess of 600 in Test cricket, they have won 10 matches while the remaining 10 have ended in a draw.

India- 33

No batting record list can ever be completed without the mention of perennial batting powerhouse- Indian Cricket Team.

The Men in Blue scored their maiden 600+ total against the West Indies at Kanpur in 1979. The home side racked up 7-655 and the game eventually ended in a draw.

Since then, India has added 32 more scores 600+ scores to their tally, the highest of which came against England [7-759] at Chennai, a game remembered for Karun Nair’s triple-hundred.

On 33 instances where India have scored 600+ totals in Test cricket, they have enforced a result in their favor on 18 occasions while 15 of them have ended in a draw.

Australia- 34

The most successful team in the history of Test cricket, Australia occupies the numero-uno spot as far as most totals in excess of 600 are concerned.

The Men from Down Under registered their first-ever total of 600 [600] against arch-rivals England at the MCG. Since then, Australia has scaled Mount. 600 on 33 more occasions, the highest of which came against West Indies [declared 8-758] at Kingston, Jamaica in 1955.

On 34 occasions that Australia has scored more than 600, they have forced a result in their favor on a record 28 occasions while six of them have ended in a draw.
