The defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) were left disappointed as they lost their third match in the ongoing 2018 edition.
Surprisingly, the Super Gillies lost these three matches while opting for a target in the domestic Twenty20 league.
They suffered a massive loss at the hands of Karaikudi Kalaai on Saturday (July 21) here at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
TNPL franchise Kalaai achieved a comprehensive victory by 47 runs.
A superb inning from the skipper:
It seems the Super Gillies now probably need to win each of their remaining four games – to provide an excellent chance of qualifying round in the tournament.
It was once again a hell of a knock from Anirudha Srikkanth that helped Karaikudi Kalaai to notch up the second win.
Kalaai will sigh a huge relief after this all-important win. Srikkanth played a much-needed knock of 56 off 28 balls after Kalaai lost their opening batsman early on. His fantastic knock included four gigantic sixes and as many boundaries.
The skipper of Kalaai was well supported by Maan Bafna, who played a handy knock of 31 off 23 balls which includes two boundaries as well.
Their partnership helped Kalaai to get a respectable total of 193 for the loss of five wickets.
A stunner from Murugan Ashwin – TNPL
However, it was not Srikkanth that garnered the spotlight, but Murugan Ashwin. On the third ball of ninth over, Srikkanth tries to clear the fence on the bowling of B Arun.
It was a low shot from the skipper Srikkanth which at the first appearance seemed to have got the distance. However, the captain could not get a much elevation as Ashwin grabbed a stunner just a foot inside the boundary rope.
Ashwin flung the ball in the air and then came inside the boundary rope to complete his sensational catch
Here is the video of the catch:
