India overcame a fine knock from Mohammad Naim (81) to beat Bangladesh by 30 runs in the third T20I and win the series 2-1. Deepak Chahar was the star with the ball, picking up a sensational 6 wickets for just 7 runs.

Chasing 175 to register a historic series win, Bangladesh started on a poor note with Deepak Chahar removing Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar on consecutive deliveries to leave the visitors reeling at 12 for 2. However, that was not at all the precursor of the things that were to follow. Mohammad Naim and Mohammad Mithun not only batted the visitors out of trouble but also put them in good position.

The two added 98 runs for the third wicket before Chahar struck again to remove Mithun for 27. And on the very next ball, Shivam Dube dismissed the dangerous Mushfiqur Rahim for a duck to put India on top once again. Those twin strikes helped India slow down Bangladesh’s innings as the match headed towards a thrilling end.

But India finally took command of the game when Dube dismissed Naim and Afif Hossain on consecutive deliveries to leave Bangladesh reeling at 126 for 6. And Yuzvendra Chahal all but sealed the win by castling captain Mahmudullah for just 8 in the 17th over. Bangladesh were eventually all out for 144.

Earlier in the game, fifties from KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer helped India recover from a shaky start to post a challenging total of 174 for 5. Asked to bat first, India were off to a disastrous start with their in-form captain Rohit Sharma departing for just 2. The hosts went on to lose yet another wicket in the powerplay when Shikhar Dhawan departed for 19.

Rahul and Iyer then batted India out of trouble with some beautiful hits. Both the batsmen looked in fine touch and made the most of it. Al-Amin Hossain broke the 59-run stand when he dismissed Rahul. Prior to his dismissal, Rahul scored 52 from 35 balls. Iyer also went on to complete his maiden T20I fifty in the 15th over in which he also hit three consecutive sixes off Afif Hossain.

India’s hopes of finishing strongly, however, took two big blows when Rishabh Pant once again failed and Iyer returned back to the pavilion in the 17th over. But a handy knock of 22 from 13 balls from Manish Pandey helped the Men in Blue put up a decent total on a good pitch.
