The Afghanistan cricket team brushed aside Scotland by a whopping 130 runs in a lop-sided encounter at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Monday. With the win, Afghanistan has a massive net run rate and they sit at the top of Group 2.

The Afghans batted first on a good batting track at Sharjah and they made the most of it. Openers, Mohammad Shahzad and Hazratullah Zazai set the platform with a 54-run opening partnership. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Najibullah Zadran joined the party and notched up useful contributions of 46 and 59 respectively.

They reached an above-par total of 190/4 in their allotted 20 overs, the highest of the Super 12 stage so far. Chasing the target was always going to be an uphill task against two of the best T20I spin bowlers, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Rashid Khan.

And tough it was. First up, it was Mujeeb who did the damage to the top order, plundering five wickets while conceding just twenty runs in a stunning opening spell. Soon after he was done for the day, skipper Mohammad Nabi brought on Rashid to pile on the agony.

The 23-year-old came on and cleaned up the lower order and the tail as Scotland was blown away for a paltry 60, enduring a massive 130-run loss on the night. Not only does it cost them two points, but they will also have to fix their horrible net run rate going into the remainder of the tournament.

Here are some Twitter reactions to Afghanistan’s resounding win over Scotland:
