Tributes Pour In As Andrew Symonds Passes Away At The Age Of 46 Following Car Crash
Former Australian two-time World Cup-winning cricketer, Andrew Symonds, passed away at the age of 46 following a car crash outside of Townsville, reports from Queensland Police have confirmed.
Symonds’ car rolled off the road and he succumbed to the injuries sustained. Medical professionals tried to revive him but the efforts were futile. The tragic loss to Australian cricket comes on the back of Shane Warne’s death in March.
“Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Hervey Range, around 50 kilometers from Townsville, that’s taken the life of a 46-year-old man.”
“Early information indicates, shortly after 11pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled. Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries,” the police report read.
Andrew Symonds’ 11-year-long career
The all-rounder was a multi-functional cricketer who was capable of batting at any position. He was one of the greatest fielders and was also able to contribute with the ball with his seam-up and off-spin bowling.
Symonds played 26 Tests for Australia over a period of 5 years where he scored 1,462 runs at an average of 40.61. In 198 ODIs, he scored 5,088 runs including six centuries with a highest of 156. He also took 133 wickets, including best figures of 5/18.
Following Symonds’ death, former teammates and cricketers from worldwide condoled his demise. “Andrew was a generational talent who was instrumental in Australia’s success at World Cups and as part of Queensland’s rich cricket history.”
“He was a cult figure to many who was treasured by his fans and friends. On behalf of Australian cricket our deepest sympathies are with Andrew’s family, team-mates, and friends,” CA chair Lachlan Henderson stated.

Andrew Symonds was a hell of an entertainer. But one of my strongest memories of him was sitting in the dark at Kensington Oval watching Symonds roll his arm over to bowl the last ball of the 2007 World Cup final. Two-time World Cup winners are rare; at that moment, he became one

Another one gone too soon. Andrew Symonds was a big part of that aura of invincibility around the Australian ODI team of his generation
