IND vs SL: Twitter Reacts As Ishan Kishan Falls 11 Runs Short Of Maiden T20I Century
Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan had a golden opportunity to register his first T20I century in the first game against Sri Lanka but he faltered just eleven runs short of the milestone.
Kishan was given another chance to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to a wrist injury. The duo began slowly before unleashing in the final three overs of the powerplay.
While Kishan was finding boundaries at will after a sluggish start, Rohit wasn’t at this fluent best. Nevertheless, the alliance flourished as India reached 100 in the 11th over. Soon after, Rohit was undone by a slower delivery and uneven bounce.
That didn’t affect Kishan at the other end. He kept knocking the ball around the park but a slight hamstring issue slowed him down. He started going hard at the ball before he was finally dismissed by a sharp bouncer from Lankan skipper, Dasun Shanaka.
Kishan attempted to pull but only found the top edge which was gobbled up by Janith Liyanage running in from deep midwicket. He ended up on 89 off 56 balls, the knock including ten fours and three maximums.
Nevertheless, it was a brilliant knock after his place in the side was questioned following a poor outing in the T20I series against the West Indies. As expected, the fans were excited after the youngster finally lived up to his billing.
