Young Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant batted brilliantly against the Dimuth Karunaratne-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team but he fell 4 runs short of a century at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh, on Friday, March 4.
Rishabh Pant looked in full control in the first innings of the first Test against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team and he played his natural aggressive game.

The biggest highlight of Rishabh Pant’s innings in the Mohali Test was his explosive batting against the Sri Lanka spinner Lasith Embuldeniya.
The 25-year-old left-arm spinner Embuldeniya came to bowl the 76th over of the match and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant went berserk against the spin bowler.

Pant smashed an outrageous six in the first ball of the 76th over and followed it up by smashing an incredible six and four in the 2nd and 3rd delivery. Pant defended the 4th ball of the over and took a double on the 5th ball. The young wicketkeeper-batsman was not done yet and he smashed another boundary in the last ball to make it 22 runs from Lasith Embuldeniya’s over.
However, he was dismissed by pacer Suranga Lakmal in the 81st over of the innings. The pacer delivered a good length ball and Pant casually tried to defend it and he left a gap between the bat and pad and the ball went on to crash into the off-stump. Pant was heavily disappointed after getting dismissed. However, the Mohali crowd applauded Pant as he walked back to the pavilion.

Overall, Rishabh Pant was able to score 96 runs off 97 balls including 9 fours and 4 sixes. The performance of the young wicketkeeper-batsman in the first innings of the home Tests has always been incredible as he has registered scores of 92,92,91,58*,1, 101 and 96 in the 1st innings of home Tests. He has scored 531 runs at an average of 88.5 at home in the first innings of Tests.

Cricket’s obsession with milestones doesn’t allow us to properly acknowledge and appreciate the achievements. This is Rishabh’s 5th score in 90s…all of them stellar knocks enriching Test cricket. #IndvSL

Rishabh Pant in agony is among the saddest sights in cricket.
But what an innings he's played. Yet again.
Firmly on the greatness path.

Rishabh Pant falls short by 4 runs. Suranga Lakmal makes best use of the new ball and gets rid of the dangerous Pant.
Top knock, @RishabhPant17 #INDvSL

As many 90s for Pant as 100s now. Quite tough for him but at the same time quite meaningless stat, did his job in all the innings all the same

He Got out at 96 .. but pant at his best .. outstanding innings @RishabhPant17 ?? pic.twitter.com/2JB23fXTUU

As Pant hammers Sri Lanka my mind is full of conversations with late Ustaad Ji (Tarak Sinha) who would say "bahut bada player banega. Abhi mat likhna. Uska dimaag kharaab ho jayega." One can quote Ustaad Ji now. Pant will serve Indian cricket long. Ustaad Ji must be happy ?

Rishabh Pant is one hell of an exciting cricketer!
— Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) March 4, 2022
But it was entertaining and thrilling to watch while it lasted! What an innings by Rishabh Pant. So audacious! #INDvSL

Doesn't matter whether it is on 96 or 196 — Rishabh Pant walking off a field after getting out is one of the most gut-wrenching sights in contemporary cricket. The demeanour of a kid who was just beginning to enjoy himself when mom yells at him to get back inside and do homework
— Prem Panicker (@prempanicker) March 4, 2022
What a magnificent knock by Rishabh Pant. And one innings later there will be people questioning his ability and ‘cricket knowledge’ #INDvSL
— Hemant (@hemantbuch) March 4, 2022
Most 90s by wicket keeper in Test history:
5 Pant
5 Dhoni— Broken Cricket (@BrokenCricket) March 4, 2022
We need to 90s column in stats guru so that future generation will know about Pant greatness.

No worries, Rishabh Pant!
You will retire as one of the biggest game changing, X-factor, superstars to have played the game.
Your feats will become the stuff of folklore! ??

Another remarkable inning by Rishabh Pant, 96 runs from just 97 balls.
— Raju Jangid (@imRJangid) March 4, 2022
Pant is going to end his career with 20 centuries and 30 90s.
Unlucky but what a daring selfless player..
No one in the past 5 years made me drop whatever I am doing and watch cricket like this guy.#RishabhPant

Crowd reaction from behind tells you the importance of your knock and how eagerly they were waiting for your century. What a star, what a box office Rishabh Pant is. pic.twitter.com/N91cEGHxGM

Tad disappointed, but the crowd acknowledges a very good effort from Rishabh Pant. One could feel the nervous energy once Pant entered the 90s and there was a collective sigh of relief when the snickometer showed Pant edging the ball two balls before.#INDvsSL pic.twitter.com/GGt4PvmYS8

Either a lapse in concentration. Or his ego getting the better of him when in 90s for Rishabh Pant. Can't keep throwing away 100s #MohaliTest @RishabhPant17

Some 90s are better than hundred. Well played pant pic.twitter.com/oUPBPbzZqw

Only Gilchrist, QDK, Prior, Dhoni, AFlower having more Test 85+ as wicket keeper than Rishabh Pant.
And Rishabh is just 24 years old !!
