Team India batsman Gautam Gambhir, who has been a part of India’s 2011 World Cup winning squad is celebrating his 37th birthday today.
Meanwhile, Gambhir is currently leading Delhi in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He smashed a swashbuckling hundred against Haryana as Delhi looked in line to seal the semifinal berth.
Gautam Gambhir has been a standout player for India over the years. He played crucial innings in both 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup finals helping India clinch the prestigious titles. He scored 57 and 97 runs respectively and took the men in blues to a commanding position on both the finals.
Furthermore, his opening stands with Virender Sehwag were instrumental in getting India to the top of ICC Test rankings. Also, Gautam Gambhir is the only Indian batsman to score 5 successive Test tons. The others to achieve this feat are Don Bradman, Jacques Kallis, and Mohammad Yousuf.
Gautam Gambhir is also the second batsman after Sir Vivian Richards to score 11 consecutive fifties.
The southpaw also played for Delhi Daredevils (DD) franchise in the Indian Premier League last season. He was a crucial part of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side before signing for Delhi. Gambhir led KKR to two victorious campaigns in 2012 and 2014. However, the franchise released him ahead of this year’s auction and didn’t bid for him either.
Gautam Gambhir accumulated 4154 runs at an impressive average of 41.95 in the 58 Tests he played for India. While in 147 ODIs he has amassed 5238 runs at the rate of 39.68 runs per innings. He also played 37 T20Is for the country hitting 932 runs at a strike-rate of 119.02.
Meanwhile, wishes started pouring in as the clock ticked 12 on all his social media sites. The tweets ranged from his fans to colleagues to former teammates who wished a healthy and prosperous year ahead.
Here is how the Twitter reacted on the birthday of Gautam Gambhir:
