Young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been the talk of the town since his spirited comeback in the Indian team and then his performance in the Test series against Australia down under and then against England in all three formats.
Not only this, his Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) named him the captain for the upcoming 14th edition of the T20 tournament, after the regular captain, Shreyas Iyer was ruled out after dislocating his shoulder and needing surgery.
Under Pant’s leadership, DC will begin their IPL 2021 campaign against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings on Saturday (April 10) at Wankhede.
In the recently-concluded 3-match ODI rubber, Rishabh Pant scored 155 runs in the last two games as India won the series 2-1. Earlier in the Test series, he slammed his first century at home and also scored two half-centuries.
The Captain Is Here, And He’s Here With A Sense Of Purpose: Rishabh Pant Hits The Nets
The Delhi Capitals (DC) shared a video on Instagram in which Rishabh Pant is seen joining his Dc teammates and interacting with everyone in an evening training session. One can see him talking to Ricky Ponting, Ishant Sharma, and Sam Billings.
Then he can be seen donning his helmet and smacking the ball in the net. He is seen unleashing his entire array of shots in the nets, including his flick, scoop, sweep, and coming out to hit the spinners out of the ground.
“The captain is here, and he’s here with a sense of purpose. @rishabpant, a man on a mission this #IPL2021,” the caption of the video read.

All eyes will be on Pant’s captaincy given that it will be his first outing as captain of a team in such a huge tournament. However, the youngster is pretty confident about his new role and looking forward to a great season ahead.
“My first match as Captain will be against Mahi (MS Dhoni) bhai. It will be a good experience for me as I have learned a lot from him. I have my own experience as a player as well. I’ll apply my own experience and the learnings from MS Dhoni, and try to do something different against CSK,” Pant was quoted as saying in a DC press release.
