New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi took a brilliant one-handed return catch to dismiss Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, in the third and final T20I that is taking place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Rohit was looking ominous, having reached his fifty off 27 balls in the eleventh over. Just when he looked set to carry on and push the innings forward, he was sent back following an excellent reflex catch by Sodhi off his own bowling.

Sodhi floated one delivery to which Rohit danced down the track with the intention of going over extra cover. However, he managed to get it off the inside half of the bat and it flew next to Sodhi, who stuck his hand out and grabbed the ball in one swift motion.

The effort ended Rohit’s 31-ball 56, which followed up his scores of 48 and 55 from the first two matches. In the process, he also went past Virat Kohli’s record of most T20I fifties. Prior to the match, the two were equal on 29 and with tonight’s fifty, Rohit overtook Kohli.

Rohit’s wicket extended New Zealand’s momentum-breaking phase, after Ishan Kishan and the skipper put up 69 runs without losing a wicket inside the powerplay. It was India’s fourth-highest total in the powerplay in home matches. The platform was set but the home side began losing wickets. At the fall of Rohit’s wicket, they were 103/4 in the twelfth over.
