Punjab Kings (PBKS) spinner Ravi Bishnoi almost had Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Rajat Patidar bowled, but a freak streak of luck saved the batter from going back to the pavilion. This event happened in the 27th match of the ongoing IPL 2021 between PBKS and RCB at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the toss and decided to put Punjab Kings (PBKS) into bat first. Both teams made some changes, as RCB brought in Shahbaz Ahmed for Washington Sundar, while PBKS had two changes as Mayank Agarwal was replaced by Prabhsimran Singh and Arshdeep Singh made way for Harpreet Brar.

PBKS innings was the story of three knocks. While Harpreet Brar made 25* in just 17 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes, down the order, Chris Gayle slammed 46 in 24 balls which came with 6 fours and 2 sixes. However, the hero for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) team proved to be their captain KL Rahul.

KL Rahul batted through the innings, making 91* in 57 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes. The purple cap holder Harshal Patel received a good pasting as he gave 53 runs in his 4 overs, while Kyle Jamieson picked 2/32 in 3 overs, despite being hit for 5 fours in one over by Chris Gayle.

In reply, Royal Challengers Bangalore opened with Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, but Riley Meredith cleaned up Padikkal for 7 runs. Kohli was then joined by Rajat Patidar and the duo rebuilt the innings somewhat.

Kohli and Patidar were finding it difficult to negotiate Meredith and Mohammed Shami as they got bounce off the wicket and movement in the air. However, things became more difficult when spinners came on and Harpreet Brar and Ravi Bishnoi completely dominated both Patidar and Kohli.

Bishnoi was especially hard to get away for both the RCB batsmen and he even got Patidar out on the 3rd ball of the 10th over.

Bishnoi let go a fast spinning googly towards Patidar, who completely miss read the ball and went for a slog sweep. Replays showed that the ball snuck under Patidar’s bat and brushed past the leg stump while going into keeper Prabhsimran’s gloves. The keeper appealed and umpires had to refer it to the third umpire.

The replays also found that the ball had actually hit the leg stump on its way to the keeper, but neither the lights came on, nor the bails were disturbed.
