“What a catch,” said Deep Dasgupta on air as Wriddhiman Saha added yet another impressive catch to his already impressive collection of stunners. The India Test wicketkeeper took the stunner to dismiss Mahmudullah as Bangladesh found themselves in more trouble in the ongoing second Test at the Eden Gardens.

Bangladesh’s decision to bat first once again backfired as their top-order flopped miserably. Just like the Indore Test, the Bangladesh batsmen once again failed to deal with India’s in-form pacers. The trio of Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma was all over the visitors as India made a roaring start with the pink ball.

Half of the Bangladesh side was back in the hut even before the team could touch the 50-run mark. Ishant Sharma gave the hosts the first breakthrough by dismissing Imrul Kayes for 4. The next three batsmen – Mominul Haque, Mohammad Mithun and Mushfiqur Rahim – departed even before opening their account.

Wriddhiman Saha’s stunner:

Liton Das and Mahmudullah tried to stop the rot for a while as they took their team’s score past the 50-run mark. However, the two could not convert their start into a  good stand thanks to a stunning catch from Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps. The catch ended the 22-run stand between the two batsmen.

Ishant Sharma made Mahmudullah edge one behind the stumps. At first, it looked like the ball would just pass through the gap between the wicketkeeper and the first sleep. However, before the ball could pass, Wriddhiman Saha made a timely dive and held the ball with just one hand while making a full-length dive.

India, meanwhile, are leading the series after winning the first Test by an innings and 130 runs. A win in the ongoing game will further extend India’s winning run in the Test Championship to seven consecutive games.

Here is a clip of that catch from Wriddhiman Saha:
