The Indian innings might have folded shortly on the second morning of the ongoing second Test against England but wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant still managed to provide a few moments of joy to everyone including captain Virat Kohli.
India started the second day with the score reading 6/300 and they would have hoped for the duo of Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel to add 50-60 crucial runs to the tally.
However, the hosts got off to a disastrous start as they lost both Axar Patel and Ishant Sharma in the first over of the morning session, bowled by Moeen.
With very little support from the other end, Rishabh Pant decided to take the attack to the English bowlers in order to add as many runs to the tally.
The swashbuckler stroked Moeen Ali for back-to-back boundaries in the 92nd over of the innings before claiming a single to complete his 2nd half-century of the series.
Then in the next over of Ali, Pant jumped down the track and deposited the off-spinner in the long-off stand. Such was the connection on that stroke by Rishabh Pant that even skipper Virat Kohli couldn’t help but express his astonishment.
Nevertheless, Pant’s fireworks were short-lived as Olly Stone dismissed the remaining two batsmen- Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj- within a space of the first six balls that he bowled to ensure that India’s innings ended on 329.
