Vijay Hazare Trophy: Ambati Rayudu Out On 17 On His Return From Retirement, Chhattisgarh Upset Mumbai

Ambati Rayudu was dismissed on 17 in his much-awaited comeback match to cricket. Playing for Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the experienced batsman took his time to settle down but failed to convert a good start into a big innings. He was caght by wicketkeeper-batsman Sheldon Jackson off spinner Kamlesh Makvana after facing 38 balls.

Courtesy of Tanmay Agarwal’s 79 and Tilak Verma’s 65, Hyderabad were able to post a total of 252 on the board in 50 overs.

Riding on a five-fer from B Sandeep, Hyderabad bowled Saurashtra out for mere 131 to win the match by a big margin of 121 runs. While they did win the match, Rayudu disappointed on his comeback to the game.

The right-handed batsman had announced his retirement from all forms of cricket during the World Cup 2019, after he was ignored for a place in the team even when India needed two replacements players.

Few months later, Rayudu took a u-turn and made his comeback to the game on the advice of VVS Laxman and Noel David.

He has now made himself available for Hyderabad to play all the formats, including first-class cricket, a format that he quit to concentrate on white-ball cricket on the road to the World Cup.

Rayudu seemed to be an automatic selection in the World Cup squad but was pipped by all-rounder Vijay Shankar for a place in the 15-member squad. He will also play for Chennai Super Kings in IPL.

Hyderabad now play Kerala in their next league stage match tomorrow. Their first two matches were washed out due to rain.

Chhattisgarh upset Mumbai – 


Playing their fourth season in domestic cricket, Chhattisgarh pulled off a heist against Mumbai as they defeated a star-studded Shyreyas Iyer-led side, chasing a big target of 318 on the penultimate delivery.

Former India U-19 batsman Amandeep Khare scored a blazing 117* off 94 to lead the chase. Almost every Chhattisgarh batsmen got a good start and later in the innings, Khare played a big knock to upset the defending champions at Alur Cricket Stadium III in Bangalore.
