That Virat Kohli is one of the greatest batsmen that this beautiful game has ever seen is not even a question. Kohli, who made his international debut back in the year 2008, has gone on to create a new benchmark as far as batsmanship is concerned, thanks to his insatiable love tot scoring runs on a consistent basis.

While Kohli- the batsman- seldom garners any criticism, the same cannot be said about his captaincy. Kohli took over the leadership of the Indian Test team back in 2014-15 after MS Dhoni announced his shock retirement from the five-day format and of the white-ball teams in 2017.

While India has embarked on a consistent winning spree across formats under the leadership of Virat Kohli, they have frequently faltered at the final hurdle in ICC events.

Kohli has often been criticized for his inconsistent team selections and on-field tactics and former Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra is still a work in progress as far as captaincy is concerned. Nehra also termed Kohli as an impulsive captain.

“Virat Kohli as a player needs no recognition as his career graph tells the entire story. Kohli as a player has done amazingly well, in captaincy I still feel he is a work in progress. I can say he is a little bit impulsive captain.” Ashish Nehra said during a conversation with Akash Chopra on the latters Youtube channel.

Nehra also added that Virat should continue to be aggressive on the field but also advised him to be cautious in decision making.

Nehra has seen Virat- the captain- from close quarters. He has worked as the bowling consultant for the Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore before he was ousted following a support-staff overhaul after the 2019 season. The former Indian pacer had also retired from international cricket under the leadership of Virat Kohli during the 2017 T20I series against New Zealand on his home ground in Delhi.

Kohli has come under stringent criticism for his team selections as well as the way he has handled his IPL franchise in the past few years. Since the 2016 season, the star-studded RCB has finished with the wooden spoon in two of the past three editions.
