When it comes to batting, there is no stopping Virat Kohli. The India skipper continues the rule the game with his exceptional displays with the willow.  Earlier this year, he scripted history by becoming the first player in history to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year, as well as the ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year and the ICC ODI Player of the Year awards. He was also named captain of ICC’s Test and ODI teams of 2018 for a stunning run in international cricket.

However, the same cannot be said about his captaincy. Kohli is facing the heat for his captaincy in recent times. India’s loss to Australia that too at home made many raise fingers at Kohli. Royal Challengers’ performance in the Indian Premier League only made things tough for Kohli as his side finished eighth. And now MS Dhoni‘s former childhood coach Keshab Ranjan Banerjee has said Kohli is well behind Dhoni when it comes to ‘match-reading and forming strategies’. Banerjee also said Kohli needs Dhoni by his side while leading the team.

“In terms of match-reading and forming strategies, Dhoni is still unparalleled. Even Virat Kohli doesn’t have that. So Kohli needs to take some advice. If Dhoni would not have been part of the Indian team, there would be nobody to help him. Virat still needs time as captain and advice from Dhoni would only help him,” Banerjee told reporters.

Kohli, meanwhile, will be looking to prove his critics wrong when he leads the nation in this year’s World Cup. India will open their campaign against South Africa on June 5. With just days left before the World Cup gets underway, there has been a lot of talk about a weak middle order, especially with no specialist at No 4. And according to Banerjee, Dhoni should be the man to bat at number four.

“I feel Dhoni should bat at No 4 in the World Cup. It is a team management decision but that’s my personal opinion. If he bats at No 4, batsmen after him can play freely,” he said.

“When he bats at no 4, he has the luxury of spending some time and then bat freely. But he has to hit right from ball one, if he drops down at 5 or 6. Then he has to take risks,” explained Banerjee.Virat Kohli doesn’t have MS Dhoni’s match-reading skills:
