Youth are the future of any team and it is essential to groom young talents. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) head coach Simon Katich introduced a special mentorship programme for his side under which each youngster is paired with a senior player who can groom their game and add value to their potential.

RCB have plenty of young talents in their ranks. Incidentally, the IPL 2020 has turned out to be a season where youngsters have succeeded to the fore. The RCB mentorship programme has seen young opener Devdutt Padikkal paired with Team India captain Virat Kohli while fierce fast bowler Navdeep Saini will be groomed by South Africa great Dale Steyn.

“The mentorship programme is something Simon Katich (head coach) was very keen to introduce, it’s something that happens in many sports, and its something that can take place when players are keen to share their experiences. The players can exchange ideas with each other, we spent a lot of time to pick who will spend with whom, generally we have done it around the skill group.

Players will be able to spend time with each other and be away from the practice. They can talk about the game, for example, Navdeep Saini is paired with Dale Steyn,” Hesson said in a video posted by RCB’s official Twitter handle.

RCB debutant Devdutt Padikkal was destined to be a cricket. Before his birth, his parents, had decided that if it is a son then they will make him a cricketer. And after waiting patiently for a few years, Devdutt Padikkal made his debut for RCB and was on the money straight away.

RCB posted a total of 163/5 on board and well defended it with some brilliant bowling from leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. The Bangalore franchise, vying for their first IPL title, thus got off to a perfect start in the lucrative tournament.
