Virat Kohli To Have Stand Named After Him At Feroz Shah Kotla

India skipper Virat Kohli is all set to have a stand named after him at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. The Delhi and District Cricket Association confirmed the news on Sunday. DDCA President Rajat Sharma and the Apex Council took the decision to name one Stand of Feroz Shah Kotla stadium as ‘Virat Kohli Stand’ in honour of his achievements.

Kohli will be the youngest active cricketer to be bestowed with the rare honour of a Stand being named after him at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. The decision was taken on the eleventh anniversary of Kohli’s debut in international cricket. On this day 11 years ago a young Virat Kohli made his international debut for India against Sri Lanka at Dambulla.

With the passage of time, Kohli became one of the best batsmen of this generation. He is currently the top-ranked ODI and Test batsman. Kohli has now scored a staggering 20502 runs in all formats of international cricket, with 20, 018 of those runs coming from 2010 onwards. This made him the first player to score 20000 runs in international cricket in a single decade.

Kohli has scored a combined 68 international centuries with 25 of those coming in Tests and 43 of those coming in ODI cricket. In addition, he has also scored 91 half-centuries (20 in Tests, 54 in ODIs and 21 in T20Is). With age on his side, the 30-year is looking set to bow out of the game as one of the greatest batsmen to have ever played the game.

“Virat Kohli’s outstanding contribution to world cricket has done DDCA proud. We are happy to honour him for achieving certain milestones and unbeatable captaincy record. To cherish these memories,” said DDCA president Rajat Sharma. “I’m sure the ‘Virat Kohli Stand’ will be a source of inspiration for Delhi’s young cricketers.

The DDCA will hold a function on September 12 at the Weightlifting Auditorium, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, to felicitate Team India.

Meanwhile, former India cricketers Bishan Singh Bedi and Mohinder Amarnath are the two other Delhi players after whom two Stands have been named in the famous stadium. However, it was after the two former captains had retired. Virender Sehwag and Anjum Chopra are the other Delhi players who have gates named after them while the Hall of Fame has been named after former India captain MAK Pataudi.
