Former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag has predicted the future of ex India captain Sourav Ganguly during the book launch of the latter in New Delhi.
Ganguly had written a book named ‘A Century Is Not Enough’ published by Juggernaut.
Meanwhile, Sehwag had witnessed Ganguly’s growth as the captain of the team. Moreover, it was during Ganguly’s tenure when Sehwag established himself as an opening batsman.
Sehwag was one such player, who remains indebted to Ganguly for the belief his captain had on him and opportunities he got.
Sehwag predicts Ganguly’s future
The dashing opener admitted he believe Ganguly will become the Chief Minister of West Bengal. However, he feels before that, Ganguly will become the President of BCCI.
“Dada (Ganguly) will 100 per cent become the chief minister of Bengal one day. But before that he will become the president of BCCI,” Sehwag said.
Meanwhile, there are speculations doing rounds that Ganguly is likely to take up the job. Ganguly also revealed a story when he insisted selectors to pick Sehwag for the tour to South Africa in 2001.
“I remember once selectors told me not to take Viru to South Africa (2001) because he is not a good player of fast bowling. But I insisted on him taking along and he scored a Test century on debut at Bloemfontein,” Ganguly said.
Sehwag backs an Indian as a coach
Sehwag, who was in line for the job of India’s head coach before he lost out to Ravi Shastri, insisted on having Indian coaches. However, he still feels coach at this level is all about man management.
“Absolutely. In 2007-08, Lalchand Rajput was our coach and we won the CB series and then the World T20. Coaches should be man managers. That was the reason why Gary Kirsten was so successful. With him, it was like I will discuss this issue with you only if it remains between the two of us. Now, I am the mentor of Kings XI Punjab and know how things work,” Sehwag added.
Meanwhile, Sehwag is currently the mentor of the Kings XI Punjab side in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team had a good start to this tournament as is in line to qualify for the playoffs.
