Former Indian Test batsman VVS Laxman has highlighted a trait about MS Dhoni that has been constant throughout his career. MS Dhoni retired from international cricket on Saturday (15th of August) as one of the most iconic cricketers and the greatest match-winners India ever had. VVS Laxman reckons that the World Cup winning-captain has always been emotionally indifferent to results.

It’s already been four days since MS Dhoni announced his retirement; however, for many fans and cricketers, the news has not entirely sunk in. The 39-year old pulled curtains on his international career after winning all three ICC trophies and tasting as many lows as well. Dhoni’s calmness, composure, and unconventional decision making has remained a hallmark of his captaincy. He also receives the credit for developing players like Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma, and Suresh Raina, who also retired the same day.
VVS Laxman feels that captaining the Indian team has always been a challenging task since plenty of expectations hovers. However, he believes that the keeper-batsman has always been emotionally disconnected with the results.
“I always felt that captaining the Indian team is probably the toughest challenge for anyone because there’s so much of expectation from everyone around the world. But MS Dhoni has always been emotionally detached from the results,” Laxman said in the Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.
The 45-year old conceded that Dhoni has inspired millions not only from the sports arena but people from all the fields. According to Laxman, MS Dhoni has motivated others on how to become an ambassador of your country and how to conduct oneself in public. It is the way he has earned respect.
“He has inspired millions of Indians, not only the sports fans, but millions of Indians on how to conduct and how to become an ambassador of your country, how to carry yourself in the public domain. And that’s why he’s so respected,” he added.
The world has thanked MS Dhoni for his contribution to the sport: VVS Laxman
The 134-Test veteran highlighted that when it comes to social media posts, not only cricketers but also personalities from all walks of life have hailed MS Dhoni. The cricketers around the world have thanked the Jharkhand cricketer for his immense contribution towards cricket.
“When you see the social media posts, it’s not only from the former players or the cricketing fans, it’s from all the Indians, whether you take film stars, socialites, esteemed businessmen, politicians. Around the world, all the former cricketers, the entire cricketing fraternity, have thanked MS Dhoni for his contribution not to Indian cricket, but world cricket,” the Hyderabad-born batsman stated further.
