Despite growing a dominant force in the game of cricket, the Indian National Cricket Team is yet to win a single ICC trophy after clinching the Champions Trophy in 2013 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. They always started the ICC events as favourites to win the trophy, but somehow found their way to exit. Speaking of the same, VVS Laxman believes the success is around the corner for the current Indian team.

They were knocked out in the semi-finals in the last-two 50-over World Cups and suffered a crushing defeat in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against arch-rivals Pakistan. In the 2019 World Cup, they were looked set to do something magical but faced a defeat against New Zealand while chasing a moderate total on the board.

Results and trophies will come their way – VVS Laxman

The former cricketer VVS Laxman has put his weight behind the Indian team and is confident that Virat Kohli’s side will win a lot more ICC events in the times to come. Laxman backed India to lift more trophies in the coming future due to the winning culture that has developed in the squad.

“There is a culture which has been created within this Indian team. The culture to think like a champion. Results and trophies will come their way there is no doubt about it,” VVS Laxman said to India Today.

Further VVS Laxman expressed his confidence in the current team to win in the overseas conditions. He believes the Virat Kohli-led side got the calibre to tackle the best teams in the world in overseas conditions. VVS Laxman also predicted India to win the series against New Zealand.

“There’s a lot of depth, not only in the bowling unit. There is now a lot of experience, class in their batting lineup. They will be a real threat and they will be winning a lot of overseas tours. Starting with New Zealand, I’m backing India to win,” Laxman said in an episode of India Today Inspiration.
