Feel For KL Rahul And Preity Zinta: Wasim Jaffer Leads Reactions To Glenn Maxwell's Whirlwind Knock After Poor IPL
Updated - 28 Nov 2020, 10:04 AM
Glenn Maxwell, on Friday, bounced back from a poor show in IPL 2020 in style to tear India apart with a scintillating batting display in the ongoing first ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The allrounder, who was playing for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020, performed miserably in the competition. He had completely failed to justify his high reputation as well as lofty price-tag. KXIP had splashed a whopping amount of INR 10.75 crore in the previous auction to secure his services.
Glenn Maxwell played in every match except the last league game but managed to score just 108 runs from 11 innings at a paltry average of 15.42 and a dismal strike-rate of 101.88. He failed to hit a single six during the entire competition and faced criticism from several quarters for his poor performance.
However, he was back to his best on Friday as soon as the jersey and the team changed. After the likes of David Warner, Aaron Finch and Steve Smith gave the hosts a solid start, Glenn Maxwell came out all guns blazing to set the tone for a huge total.
He scored 45 off just 19 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes and shared a 57-run stand off just 25 balls with Smith. And as the Australia star was taking India’s bowlers to the cleaners, the fans were expressing their surprise over his contrasting form for the national team and IPL team.
KXIP mentor Wasim Jaffer, who has developed a knack of giving his opinion on cricket-related incidents with memes, led the reactions to Maxwell’s innings. The former India opener posted the famous photo of the Pakistani fan from last year’s World Cup to describe KXIP skipper KL Rahul’s reaction. Rahul was behind the stumps when Glenn Maxwell was putting on the show at the SCG.

Here are some of the reactions from the fans:
Glenn Maxwell hits a six off a switch hit. He didn't hit a single six in the IPL and now fires one with switch hit, his IPL captain KL Rahul is just right behind the stumps. pic.twitter.com/8KQBRpKFOS

In the recent IPL season, Glenn Maxwell's strike-rate of 101.89 was the lowest among all players who faced 100+ balls. Now he is striking at 250 in the ODI match.#AUSvIND

Glenn Maxwell has got more runs via boundaries today (3 sixes and 5 fours = 38 runs) than he got during the entire IPL 2020 (0 sixes, 9 fours = 36 runs).
108 off 106 balls, 7 times out in IPL.
45 off 19, once out in #INDvsAUS— Saurabh Somani (@saurabh_42) November 27, 2020
All the runs that Maxwell scored for Punjab in IPL 2020, he's gonna surpass that in today's match.
Can feel for KL Rahul and Priety Zinta ??#AUSvIND#INDvAUS
