Ahead of the 41st match of Vivo IPL 11, Mumbai Indians needed to beat Kolkata Knight riders yet again to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.
They had played some quality cricket coming into the match. After losing the toss, Mumbai was asked to bat. They were yet again provided a fluent start by openers Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis. Surya looked in complete control of proceedings. He continued his good run. However, he got dismissed just when he seemed to go hammers and tongs.
Kolkata also lost Lewis in quick time. However, the innings which turned the game on its head was that of Ishan Kishan’s one. The southpaw after being beaten by Kuldeep Yadav took him on with disdain and smashed the last four deliveries of the over straight over the boundary ropes.
After smashing a couple over the long-on fielder, it was a mini Dhoni in the display, as he smashed the final delivery of the over for yet another six. He resembled Dhoni quite a bit while executing the helicopter shot to perfection.
Mumbai Indians post 210
In the end, it was a cameo from Ben Cutting which propelled Mumbai to 210 in their allotted 20 overs. Piyush Chawla was handed over the final over. He conceded 22 runs which were instrumental in helping Mumbai go past the 200-mark.
It was a huge score, and Kolkata needed to bat out of their skin to harbour hopes of chasing the total down.
However, Kolkata Knight Riders were never in the chase, as they kept losing wickets on a consistent basis. The Mumbai bowlers were simply sensational and never allowed Kolkata to get going. They kept chipping away with the wickets which never really allowed Kolkata to push for the target and eventually won the game by 102 runs at the Eden Gardens.
