Veteran West Indies star Chris Gayle was in murderous mood on Friday when he turned up for Vancouver Knights in the Global T20 Canada. The left-handed batsman tore apart the Edmonton Royals bowlers to power his side to a thumping 6 wicket win with 21 balls remaining. Chris Gayle won the toss and decided to field first.
The decision turned out to be spot on early on as Vancouver Knights bowlers were all over the Royals batsmen. Both Royals openers were back in the hut with just 11 runs on the board. The Royals kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were reeling at 5 for 52 at one stage. At that stage, even the 100-run mark was looking like a distant dream.
However, Ben Cutting and Mohammad Nawaz stopped the rot and added 78 runs for the sixth wicket to bat their team to a respectable total. The Royals eventually finished their innings on a respectable 165 for 9. Cutting was the top-scorer for his side with 72 while Nawaz scored 40.

But the score turned out to be too less in the end thanks to a herculean knock from Chris Gayle. The Vancouver Knights skipper slammed 94 from just 44 balls with the help of nine sixes to kill the contest. By the time he was dismissed, the Knights had already raced away to 140 inside 14 overs. Shoaib Malik then slammed an unbeaten 34 from 17 balls to take the side home.
The highlight of the game was the over bowled by Shadab Khan when he was hit for 32 runs by Gayle. In the 13th over of the game, Shadab conceded 4 sixes and a couple of fours to finish his spell with 66 runs from 4 overs. The first two balls went for sixes before Shadab managed to avoid maximums on the next two deliveries. However, both the deliveries went for four before Gayle hit two more sixes to end the over.
