‘That’s the best I have seen’, said Kevin Pietersen on air as soon as Nicholas Pooran made a breathtaking save to deny a certain six to Sanju Samson in the ongoing clash between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals.

With the pitch offering nothing to the bowlers and the dimensions of the ground being on the smaller side, Nicholas Pooran did his side a big favour in the clash. Rajasthan Royals came out all guns blazing after Kings XI Punjab piled up 223 for 2 in their allotted 20 overs.

Mayank Agarwal scored 106 and shared a huge stand of 183 runs with fellow opener KL Rahul to guide Punjab to the huge total. But the big total did not stop Royals from firing on all cylinders right from the word go. Despite losing Jos Buttler cheaply, Steve Smith and Sanju Samson took the attack to the opposition.

At the end of the powerplay, the Royals raced away to 69 for the loss of 1 wicket. Even after the end of the fielding restrictions, both the batsmen kept playing the big shots as Royals crossed the 100-run mark in just the ninth over. And while nothing much was going Kings XI Punjab’s way, Nicholas Pooran must have lifted his team’s morale with a stunning effort on the boundary.

On the third delivery of the 8th over bowled by Murugan Ashwin, Sanju Samson pulled a shorter delivery towards mid-wicket. The ball was looking set to cross the ropes with ease but Nicholas Pooran had some other ideas. The West Indies star leapt full length over the rope to catch the ball.

And just before falling outside the boundary, he smartly flicked the ball back into play to save four valuable runs for his side.

Here is a clip of that stunning save:
