Everyone was expecting an usual press-conference when Ross Taylor addressed the media after the end of the third Test between New Zealand and Australia in Sydney. Ross Taylor attended the presser to mark a special milestone for himself as became New Zealand’s run-scorer in the longest format of the game.

But as the session went ahead, Ross Taylor could not hide his emotions and broke down after being asked about the turning points of his career. Ross Taylor, in fact, decided to leave the room with apologies eight minutes in, after a prolonged, awkward silence as he just found it tough to deal with the emotions.

Prior to leaving the room, Ross Taylor made it clear as to why he became emotional after overtaking Stephen Fleming as New Zealand’s leading test run-scorer. The veteran batsman remembered the late Martin Crowe, his friend and fellow batting great who died of cancer in 2016 and it made him lose control on his emotions.

“My goal was to play one test match. I guess it’s an emotional time because my mentor Martin Crowe, that was one of the goals he put down for me was to be New Zealand’s highest test runscorer. To be honest I didn’t believe him, but I’d have loved for him to be here and help celebrate,” Taylor said.

Taylor became the leading run-scorer for his country when he passed 21 with a firm drive down the ground off Nathan Lyon. He went past Fleming’s mark of 7172 that stood since his retirement in 2008.

Here is the clip showing Ross Taylor breaking down in tears:

New Zealand, nonetheless, could not avoid a whitewash in Australia as they suffered a heavy defeat in the third Test too. Chasing an improbable 416, the Black Caps were all out for just 136.
