David Warner looks like a man on a mission. The Australia star is desperate to make up for the time he loss due to the ball-tampering scandal. Warner could not play international cricket for a year in the wake of the ball-tampering scandal. However, the lengthy absence from the cricket field has not affected Warner’s batting as he has hit the ground running.

On Wednesday, the southpaw smashed a stunning hundred in the win over Pakistan in Taunton. He scored his first international century since serving a year-long ban as Australia beat Pakistan by 41 runs in a thrilling game. Warner, who was being criticised for his slow fifty against India, starred with the bat and scored 107.

Skipper Aaron Finch also impressed, scoring 82 before Australia suffered an inexplicable collapse towards the end to get all out for just 307. The defending champions lost their last six wickets for 30 runs thanks mainly to Mohammad Amir’s 5 wickets for just 30.

Pakistan started well with the bat and were cruising at 136 for 2 before suffering a collapse of 4 for 24. Hassan Ali hammered 32 from 15 balls and Wahab Riaz 45 from 39 balls to revive the chase but Mitchell Starc dismissed the latter and Mohammad Amir inside an over to all but kill the chase. Glenn Maxwell then superbly ran out Sarfaraz Khan to power Australia to the win.

Warner, nonetheless, received the Man of the Match award for his fine effort on the field. It was his first individual award in international cricket since making a comeback. However, the 32-year showed exemplary gesture as he passed the award to a young Aussie fan. Warner was signing autographs with the fans after the match when he came across the young boy and handed him his award.

“I feel awesome,” the young fan told the Cricket World Cup’s Zainab Abbas after the match.

“It’s pretty cool to have that. We were just waving the flag and he just came over and gave it to us. I really like him,” he added.
