After going wicketless in his first seven overs, Kuldeep Yadav took his maiden ODI hat-trick in the ongoing second match against Australia at the Eden Gardens to put India on the path to victory. As a result of his hat-trick, the world champions were reeling at 148 for 8 in pursuit of 253.

Prior to the start of the match, a confident Kuldeep had said that wrist spinners are more effective than conventional spinners.

“Conventional spinners have only one or two variations but wrist spinners have the quality to deceive the batsmen. There’s more option to take wickets,” the 22-year-old told reporters on Wednesday.

However, his words were backfiring as he conceded 39 runs off his first 7 overs without tasting much success. But the chinaman spinner, who had also taken a hat-trick in Under-19 cricket, proved himself right with a magical over where he dismissed Matthew Wade, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins on three consecutive deliveries. He ended the over without conceding a single run as India strengthened its grip on the game.
