The ongoing clash between England and Australia at Lord’s was heading towards a thrilling finish before Mitchell Starc castled Ben Stokes with an absolute gem of a delivery. After England found themselves five down for 124, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes steadied the ship for them in pursuit of 286. The two took their time early on before accelerating.

Just like the last game against Sri Lanka, Ben Stokes was once again waging a lone battle. In the 36th over, he hit Pat Cummins for two boundaries to make his intentions clear. But before he could take his side closer to Australia’s total, Aaron Finch recalled his pace spearhead Mitchell Starc to give the team a breakthrough and the pacer duly delivered.

After conceding four runs from his first five deliveries, Starc left Stokes clueless by bowling a brutal yorker. The way Stokes was batting, it needed something special from Australia to get him out and Starc provided that special moment. The left-arm pacer bowled a 145kph inswinging yorker to castle Stokes. By the time the England star could bring his bat down, the ball had gone on to hit the off-stump.  Disappointed with the dismissal, Stoke threw his bat in anger, kicked it and then walked away.

Here is a clip showing Mitchell Starc dismissing Ben Stokes:

Earlier in the game, Australia rode on their skipper Aaron Finch‘s ton to post a competitive 285 for 7. Australia were looking well set to post well above 300 after their openers Finch and David Warner posted another century-plus stand. However, they failed to finish strongly and ended up 15 short of 300.

In reply, England are in a huge spot of bother. At Ben Stokes’ dismissal, they were reeling at 177 for 6 in the 37th over.
