The Indian cricketing community was jolted on Wednesday evening when Sachin Tendulkar’s childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar passed away at the age of 86 and on Thursday, the last rituals are performed. One of the lovable students of Achrekar, Sachin Tendulkar was also present in the final rituals.

Dronacharya and Padma Shri award-winning coach Archrekar, who is known for guiding aspiring cricketers with Sachin becoming the most popular ward. He was given a guard of honour by young boys who chanted ‘Amar Rahe’ when his body was brought to the Shivaji Park before being taken to a nearby crematorium.

”Last month, I met Sir along with some of his students and spent some time together. We shared a laugh as we remembered the old times. Achrekar sir taught us the virtues of playing straight and living straight. Thank you for making us a part of your life and enriching us with your coaching manual. Well played Sir and may you coach more wherever you are.”

Mumbai cricketers such as Atul Ranade, Amol Mazumdar Ramesh Powar. And also, Paras Mhambrey, Ranji coach Vinayak Samant, Nilesh Kulkarni, Vinod Raghvan, were also present at the funeral.

Other notable persons in the cricket commodity at the crematorium were former Rajasthan coach Pradeep Sundaram, office-bearers of the Mumbai Cricket Association, veteran cricket administrator Prof Ratnakar Shetty.

Other than his students, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, MLA and BJP leader Ashish Shelar, Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar also paid tributes to the decorated coach.
