Team India skipper Virat Kohli might find himself in the hot waters after being caught chewing gum during the national anthem before the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Earlier this year, off-spinner Parvez Rasool had faced widespread criticism for a similar gesture when he made his international debut in the first of three Twenty20 game series against England.  The spinner from Jammu & Kashmir had gone on to call the criticism as ‘disheartening.’

“Let cricketers play cricket and don’t involve them into politics unnecessarily. I try to keep my focus on the game and don’t let these controversies affect me. It is already very difficult for cricketers from our region to make it into the national team and when these things happen it is very disheartening. One has to remain tough and should not give importance to such controversies,” Rasool had told to a local television channel.

Well, Kohli can also suffer a similar fate after committing the same blunder.

Meanwhile, the start of the game was delayed due to persistent rain. The toss finally took place at 1 PM with Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal winning the toss and deciding to field first.
