It is a bitter-sweet moment for Worcestershire right now. They entered to the finals for the first time but lost the services of their key overseas players Martin Guptill and India’s Ravichandran Ashwin.
Both the overseas players gave their nod to play the final fixtures of the game but unfortunately, sustained injuries in their games. Meanwhile, the team management is in search of a new signing.
Ravichandran Ashwin suffered groin while Martin Guptill struggling with a hamstring:
The Kiwi batsman was set to be back for his county team from the ongoing Caribbean Premier League 2018. But, regrettably, he pulled up his hammy to add injury sorts for the Worcestershire County.
Recently, Ravichandran Ashwin gave his green signal to Worcestershire for the grand event. Meanwhile, he is suffering from a groin injury that sustained during the fourth Test at Southampton against England.
“We’re exploring our options for an overseas replacement for the final two Championship matches,” the chief executive Matt Rawnsley said as per the lines on BBC.
“The news is not good regarding Martin Guptill either. We had been in touch about whether there was a chance of him coming back for Finals Day.”
Martin Guptill was at his best when he played for Worcestershire in the T20 games. He was the chief contributor for the team with a series of match-winning performances. He also scored a brilliant century off just 35 balls. It would be a massive loss of missing him for the key fixtures.
Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin always played a great role for Worcestershire. He often grabbed the headlines for his match-winning spells and was equally impressive with his batting as well.
However, it would be interesting to see how the team will pull off for the final stage of the season. Meanwhile, it is intriguing to see the new signings as well.
