South African cricketer Lizelle Lee starred out for Surrey Stars against Loughborough Lightning in Women’s Super League final. The 26-year old scored a hundred in her blazing innings and also brought up the highest score in this edition with 104 on the day.

She made the second hundred of the tournament this year and went past previous century maker Smriti Mandhana‘s 102.

Lizelle Lee’s heroics ensured Surrey Stars posted a massive 183/6 in their 20 overs. Skipper Natalie Sciver ably supported her.

Having won the toss and choosing to bowl first, Loughborough Lightning contained top-order well. They picked out two wickets inside power-play overs, as Surrey finished 44/2. But skipper Sciver along with Lizelle Lee added a 111-run partnership for the third wicket which changed the dynamic of the game.

Sciver made a 31-ball 40 run knock on the day to support Lizelle Lee, who found it quite easy scoring runs. Lee’s innings featured 13 fours and six sixes, as she scored her 104 runs in just 58 balls.

Once Lee got dismissed in the 17th over, Surrey managed some quick runs to take their score to 183. Loughborough skipper Georgia Elwiss was the star with the ball after taking two wickets.

Loughborough Batters Falter To Hand Massive Win

Asked to chase 184, Loughborough batters could not handle the pressure of the scoreboard. The total was the second highest of the tournament and the pressure of final also played in.

Surrey Stars bowlers were on top from the off, as they ran through their opponents at ease. Loughborough Lightning got reduced to 36/3 inside the powerplay. Although the win for Surrey Stars looked inevitable after Lizelle Lee’s master knock, the Lightning’s middle order tried to fight their way back in.

Since the asking rate continued to creep up, the batters went for big shots and lost their way in the game.

Surrey bowlers Mady Villiers and Dane van Niekerk picked three wickets each. The win has helped Surrey Stars clinch their maiden WSL title.
