Kevin Pietersen and Yuvraj Singh recently had a live session together on Instagram and the two former internationals talked on various topics. One of the interesting topics came up when Kevin Pietersen asked Yuvraj Singh to join him in the commentary panel.

Yuvraj Singh brought down curtains on his illustrious international career last year after failing to make the cut for the World Cup. He announced his retirement from international as well as domestic cricket. After that, he played in Global T20 Canada as well as Adu Dhabi T10.

And while only time will tell Yuvraj Singh’s next step, Pietersen asked the former India batsman to join him in the commentary studio. The former England batsman said that Yuvraj had retired recently and he knows how exactly is a modern-day player thinking.

“Come and join me in the studios, come and join us in the IPL. Come and sit with us, it’s fun. You will be watching the game anyway. You are recently retired, why can’t you come and sit with us and have a laugh. It’s not like playing. I’m going to get you into the commentary box,” Pietersen told Yuvraj Singh.

“Key to commentary is what you say. Yes it about the articulation about how you say but what you say is also important. Your relevance to the game being recently retired, knowing exactly like Mumbai Indians for instance, you can bring so much experience and knowledge to the viewers. I am 2 years retired now and many of them are retired for 20 years now. Your freshness will let people know what players are exactly thinking these days,” Pietersen added.

Yuvraj Singh’s reply:

Yuvraj Singh, however, turned down the proposal and said that instead of becoming a commentator, he is more keen to be a coach. The legendary batsman said that that he would like to start with mentoring young cricketers.

“I’ll look forward to that. I’ve played for so many years so just want to take a break for a year. Probably do certain tournaments where it makes sense to do it, join with great players like you and Brian Lara and learn about commentating as well. But I am not really sure how I will do as a commentator.”

“Its gonna take some time to get into the mindset of talking about cricket. I understand what you saying but I just thought of taking some time off the game and hopefully become a father. I’m not gonna hurry myself and talk about cricket.”

“I’ll start on that (coaching), because I’m more keen on coaching than commentary. I probably have good insight for limited-overs cricket. I can advice youngsters about the mental approach in different phases of the game. Probably start as a mentor before getting into full-time coaching. I have about 16-17 academies working which I started 10 years ago. I am pretty much set without commentary,” Yuvraj told Pietrsen.

Well, a number of Yuvraj’s former teammates have joined coaching after retiring. Anil Kumble coached Mumbai Indians before taking the India job. Last year, he was appointed the head coach of Kings XI Punjab. Rahul Dravid coached India A and India U19 teams before becoming the director of National Cricket Academy.
