Yuvraj Singh has been a match winner at ICC events. He played an instrumental role in the 2007 T20 World Cup and adjudged the man-of-the-series in the 2011 World Cup for his all-round performance. Such was the calibre of the all-rounder that he became a household name and a reliable figure in Indian cricket whom everyone looked up to as a big match talent.

But the 2014 T20 World Cup final still haunts Yuvraj Singh for his poor performance and subsequently facing the wrath of fans. Asked to bat, India scored a moderate total of 130/4 on board with Virat Kohli (77) top-scoring for the side. Yuvraj Singh, on the contrary, could manage to score on 11 runs off 21 deliveries and came under severe scrutiny for his slow innings in the final against Sri Lanka.

Yuvraj Singh: I felt like I was a villain, there were some stone in my house

Yuvraj Singh took full responsibility for his poor show and accepts that he did not play well. He also feels if it was not a World Cup final than the scrutiny would have been much less. However, recalling his homecoming, Yuvraj Singh said it felt like he was a villain. He was ‘attacked’ by the media and some stones were found in his house which made him feel like a culprit.

“I always take full responsibility (for that inning). I did not play well. Unfortunately, that was a World Cup final. If it was any other game, scrutiny would not have been much. When I got back home, I felt like I was a villain. I remember getting out from the airport and luckily I had my headphones on…I got attacked by the media and they were literally shouting at me. There were stones thrown on my house in Chandigarh. When I came home, I saw my India cap and the bat I hit six sixes with and realised my time was up.” Yuvraj said on Sportscreen’s YouTube page.

“Yes there were some stones in my house as well. I felt like a culprit, like somebody has shot somebody and was going to jail. I bounced back from it. I still remember how I felt in that moment.

Sri Lanka chased down the target with 13 balls to spare with Kumar Sangakkara leading the charge for the island nation with a brilliant half-century.
