Greg Chappell became one of the most controversial figures in the sport, mainly amid his coaching tenure with the Indian team. The likes of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar have come out and spoken against him. Most recently, Harbhajan Singh fired a shot on Chappell post which Yuvraj Singh also seized the opportunity and joined the fray.

Greg Chappell revealed to have been awestruck by the skill and power of MS Dhoni. During his stint with the Men in Blue team, the 71-year-old advised the keeper-batsman to concentrate on hitting the ball along the ground instead of sending it to the crowd. The same didn’t go well with Harbhajan, who tweeted: “He asked Dhoni to play along the ground coz coach was hitting everyone out the park… He was playing different games.”

World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh couldn’t hold himself back and took a different form of dig and wrote a tweet as “Msd and Yuvi no sixes in the last ten play down the ground.” The statement roughly translates not to hit any sixes in the final ten overs, instead play down the ground.

The Australian’s most debatable decision was to drop Sourav Ganguly from the side, which sparked a backlash in the Indian cricket fraternity. When Rahul Dravid was the captain, Greg Chappell turned his attention to Sachin and asked him to take the reigns.

“Just months before the World Cup, Chappell had come to see me at home and, to my dismay, suggested that I should take over the captaincy from Rahul Dravid.” Sachin’s autobiography Playing It My Way said.
