Yuvraj Singh Warns Gary Kirsten Ahead Of India-South Africa Showdown

Team India will be opening their World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5. The World Cup has already started and the Indian fans are desperately waiting for the team’s tournament-opener. And ahead of the much-awaited clash, Star Sports, the official broadcasters, have set the tone for a fiery clash.

In the latest advertisement, the Indian fans can be seen warning former India coach Gary Kirsten and others although they also showed love for Kirsten who guided India to the World Cup title in 2011. India had defeated Sri Lanka in the finals of the 2011 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 2. Chasing 275. It was India’s second World Cup title and ended their 28-year wait for the trophy.

Yuvraj Singh, who was the man of the tournament in that edition, also shared the commercial video on Twitter and wrote that Kirsten played a key part in making April 2nd night a memorable one for every Indian.

“April 2, 2011 – a night I can never forget, and a night that one South African played a key part in making it possible,” wrote Yuvraj Singh while giving a warning to Kirsten.

 

India, meanwhile, had a mixed result from the warm-up games. The favourites suffered a crushing six-wicket defeat at the hands of New Zealand. However, the two-time winners bounced back in style by thrashing Bangladesh by 95 runs in their second warm-up game last week. KL Rahul and MS Dhoni both scored a century as they played a knock of 108 and 113 runs respectively to help India post 359 for 7. The bowlers then bowled out Bangladesh for just 264.

On the other hand, India’s opponents South Africa have started their tournament on a poor note. The Proteas suffered a heavy 104-run defeat at the hands of England in the World Cup-opener. Bowling first, South Africa conceded 311 runs. As many as four batsmen – Jason Roy, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes – scored fifties. The England bowlers then bowled out the Proteas for just 207.
