Delhi Capitals, which was known as Delhi Daredevils till the 2018 season, finished on the top spot in IPL 2021’s first half. Delhi Capitals is one of the three franchises among the current teams that have never won any IPL title.

However, out of 14 seasons, Delhi Capitals has managed to reach the playoffs 5 times. The closest they went near the title was in IPL 2020 when the Shreyas Iyer-led franchise reached the final for the first time but unfortunately ended as runners-up.

If we take a look at the current squad of Delhi Capitals, the team has many strong players like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Steve Smith, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Marcus Stonis among others. Especially in the last few auctions, the owners have managed to grab many good deals during the auction.

In IPL 2019 auction, Delhi Capitals bought South African batsman Colin Ingram for Rs. 6.40 crores. However, the left-handed batsman largely failed to make an impact with his bat in the season.

Ingram scored 184 runs in 12 innings at a mere average of 18.40. His strike rate of 119+ was also not quite impressive for the franchise. In spite of playing 12 matches, he failed to hit a century in any match with the highest score being 47.

Glenn Maxwell (IPL 2018)

In IPL 2018 auction, Delhi Capitals bought Glenn Maxwell for a massive price of Rs. 9 crores. However, the Australian batsman struggled with his batting throughout the season. The right-handed batsman scored 169 runs in 12 innings at an average of 14.08.

The Aussie batsman did not even smash a half-century. He picked 5 wickets in 10 innings while bowling as a part-time bowler, but totally failed at his primary job of batting. As a result, Maxwell was also dropped by the franchise in the subsequent season.

Corey Anderson (IPL 2017)

Delhi Capitals bought Corey Anderson for Rs. 1 crore during IPL 2017 auction. The left-handed batsman played 11 matches for the franchise, scoring 142 runs in 11 innings at an average of just 20.28. He also owned a poor strike rate of 115+ during the season.

The New Zealand all-rounder also failed to execute a magnificent performance with the ball, picking just 3 wickets in 8 innings. His high economy rate of 9.87 also added woes to Delhi in the bowling department.

Siddarth Kaul (IPL 2014)

In IPL 2014, Delhi Capitals signed bowler Siddarth Kaul for Rs. 45 lakh. The right-arm pacer played 5 matches for the franchise in the season but managed to pick only 2 wickets. He picked 1 wicket each in 2 games and remained wicketless in 3 matches.

His economy rate of 9.69 also proved to be quite expensive. Due to his poor show, Kaul had to warm the bench in the rest of the matches.

Ross Taylor (IPL 2012)

During IPL 2012, Delhi Capitals inducted Ross Taylor into their squad in a trade deal with Rajasthan Royals. Although the exact amount was not disclosed, it is expected to be in crores as, during that time, Taylor was New Zealand’s national skipper and a powerful batsman in international cricket.

However, the right-handed batsman struggled to execute a good performance for the team. In 12 innings, he could score only 197 runs at an average of 19.70. He managed to hit a fifty in one game but failed to smash big knocks in the rest of the matches.
