Chennai Super Kings have won the IPL three times and they have always retained their Indian core which has produced better results for them than other teams. They have been very consistent despite IPL 2020 being the only year in their IPL history where they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Such has been their dominance in the tournament and they deserve it for their ability to identify the strengths of the players and to get the full impact from the team. The age factor was discussed in the last season but it has been put to bed in this season after their five wins in the seven games they played this year. Here is the Chennai Super Kings predicted playing XI if only Indian players played in the IPL.
Chennai Super Kings Predicted Playing XI:
Ruturaj Gaikwad:
Ruturaj Gaikwad will certainly open the batting for the Chennai Super Kings as the youngster has been very impressive after being promoted to the top of the order and was preferred ahead of veteran Robin Uthappa by the Chennai Super Kings this season. He scored 196 runs in the seven games he played this season and has shown a lot of promise for the future of the franchise.
N Jagadeesan:
Suresh Raina:
Suresh Raina is an automatic pick in the playing XI considering his records in the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings. He is one of the top performers for the side over the years and has been very consistent at three. He returned to the IPL this season after missing out last year and scored 123 runs in the 7 games. He is a match-winner and he will also act as the sixth bowler on the side.
Robin Uthappa:
Uthappa and Raina can switch between three and four according to the situation and the veteran batsman has been in really good form of late in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021. He was traded from the Rajasthan Royals but did not get a chance in the playing XI this year as the openers of CSK were so consistent. He is a natural six-hitter and can be very dangerous when he gets going.
Ambati Rayudu:
Ambati Rayudu is one of the most versatile batsmen that CSK have in their lineup as he can bat anywhere in the batting order according to the team needs. He was brilliant against the Mumbai Indians this season scoring an unbeaten 72 off just 27 balls and showed off finishing skills too. He can be a game-changer and can do the job for the team.
MS Dhoni(C)(WK):
MS Dhoni has been the skipper and the wicket-keeper of the franchise for a long time now and though his batting skills haven’t been that productive, he has managed the side really well. A lot of concerns were raised about his captaincy last year, but he has answered it perfectly and he is a great asset to have in the side. He is one of the fastest runners between the wickets, and effects stumpings at the blink of an eye.
Ravindra Jadeja:
Ravindra Jadeja who is looked at as the future captain of the franchise when MS Dhoni’s era comes to end does offer a lot for the franchise with his batting, bowling and fielding. He has been contributing really well this year and equalled the record of scoring the most runs in an over in IPL history with 37 in the final over against RCB. He has a bullet throw in his armoury and his left-arm spin reaped rewards this year.
Krishnappa Gowtham:
Deepak Chahar:
Deepak Chahar has had a stellar run with the ball in this IPL picking 8 wickets in 7 games and picked up four-wicket hauls twice. He is excellent with the new ball and does have considerable movement in the air both ways. He has been with the Indian T20 side and the international experience has done him a world of good. He is an important part of Chennai Super Kings at the moment and could be retained ahead of the mega auction.
Shardul Thakur:
Shardul Thakur had a fantastic limited series against England and proved to be a match-winner. A lot was expected of him in the IPL but he could not replicate his heroics and has been far too expensive for an international bowler. He has been bowling the tough overs for Chennai Super Kings and he will surely make the playing XI for the franchise.
KM Asif:
KM Asif hasn’t had many opportunities for Chennai Super Kings but he is an exciting talent that has been on the wings for a long period of time. The Kerala medium pacer has been performing consistently in the domestic circuit and has played two IPL games in the past for the franchise. He should make the playing XI the third fast bowler in the side.
