It is rare to see the Indian skipper Virat Kohli miss out on centuries, but he did have some memorable knocks in the ICC World Test Championship despite not being at his prime best. Virat Kohli’s last test century came in November 2019 and his century drought for the last two years has been really surprised with the standards he has set.

Kohli is India’s third-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 877 runs in 14 Tests at an average of 43.85. He scored two centuries and five half-centuries and has led India to the finals of the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship against New Zealand in June this year. Here are the 3 most memorable by Virat Kohli in the ICC World Test Championship.

3.Kohli’ 72 Against England, Chennai 2021:

This was a knock that showed that Virat Kohli still has got the grit to score runs and still remains the best batsmen on the team. The first test of the four-match home Test series against England and India lost the toss on a flat wicket in Chennai. India was set a target of 420 in the second innings and it needed big partnerships to get there.

India’s chase never got going and there were a lot of controversies on Virat Kohli’s dismissal in the first innings. With all the batsmen failing at the other end, Kohli managed to score an excellent 72 and he had to go for the kill with wickets being bundled out. It might have come on a losing cause as England won the game by 227 runs but it definitely put the questions against the Indian skipper to bed and India went on to win the series 3-1 after that.

2.Kohli’s 136 Against Bangladesh, Kolkata 2019

Virat Kohli was the first Indian to score a century in the pink ball test and he scored a fine 136 in 198 balls against the Bangladesh side. He hit 18 fours in the innings and never looked like being uncomfortable at the crease. The skipper was finally dismissed by Ebadat Hossain and the excellent innings came to an end.

Kohli’s century took India to a total of 347 for the loss of 9 wickets in the first innings and it meant that India did not need to bat again as they won by an innings and 46 runs. It was a memorable victory for the Indian team as they won their first pink ball test and in the process, went on to win the series against Bangladesh as well.

1.Kohli’s 254 Against South Africa, Pune 2019:

This was the first home test series for India in the World Test Championship and South Africa visited the country for a 3 match tests series. India won the first test comfortably and went into the second test by winning the toss and batting first. India registered a massive total of 601 on the board for the loss of 5 wickets in the first innings, and the skipper brought up his highest test score.

Coming in at four, Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 254 in just 336 balls which was his seventh double century in tests. He kept on piling up runs and hit 33 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. The South African bowling attack never looked like having answers to him and India won the Test by an innings and 137 runs.
