ICC World Test Championship Final: Highest Score By Each Batting Position In The Tournament

Virat Kohli’s men will be lining up against Kane Williamson’s men in the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship finals which starts on Friday. Both teams have been clinical in winning any Test series so far and the battle will continue this week with all eyes on the captains who will have a major role to play.

India and New Zealand played a two-match test series in the World Test Championship already in the Kiwis’ backyard and the hosts emerged victorious in the series with a scoreline 2-0. India will be looking to get its revenge back and it is time to look at the highest score by each batting position in the tournament.

Highest Score By Each Batting Position In The ICC World Test Championship:

David Warner:

The Australian opener David Warner holds the highest score by an opener in the ICC World Test Championship with his stunning innings of an unbeaten 335 not out and it was the only triple century in the tournament. Warner demolished the Pakistan bowling attack and his efforts led to an easy win for Australia by an innings and 48 runs in the test. He hit 39 fours and one six in the process and was adjudged the man of the match.

Zak Crawley:

The England top-order batsman Zak Crawley brought up his maiden double century in Tests against the Pakistan side and his 267 run-knock is his highest score in tests so far. Coming in at number three, he kept ticking the scoreboard with some excellent shots and the Pakistan bowlers had no answers to his display of batting. Crawley’s 267 is the highest score by a number three batsman in the ICC World Test Championship.

Virat Kohli:

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli brought up his highest score in tests in the home series against South Africa when he scored a brilliant double century in the second test at Pune. Kohli’s unbeaten 254 helped India post a massive total on board and India went on to win the Test by an innings and 137 runs. The 254 run-knock in 336 deliveries comprised of 33 fours and two sixes and is the highest score by a number four batsman in the tournament.

Kyle Mayers:

This was the test when Kyle Mayers created history by scoring a match-winning double century in the fourth innings to chase down 395 to win the first test. Mayer’s 210 run knock came just of 310 balls with 20 fours and seven six in the innings, and it was a memorable day for the West Indies who looked improbable of getting to the total unless Mayers stepped in. Mayer’s unbeaten 210 is the highest score by a number five batsman in the tournament.

Jos Buttler:

This was the same match in which Zak Crawley got to his double century and the 359 run partnership for the fifth wicket included a special knock from the English wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler. Buttler scored 152 in 311 deliveries with 13 fours and two sixes and it was his only century in the tournament. It was also the highest score by a number six batsman in the ICC World Test Championship.

Quinton de Kock:

The South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton De Kock holds the highest score by a number seven batsman in the ICC World Test Championship. De Kock scored a valiant century against the mighty Indian bowling attack in sub-continent conditions and his knock came at a very quick pace in just 162 deliveries with 16 fours and two sixes. His century could not stop India from winning the test by 203 runs in the first test at Vizag.

Yasir Shah:

The Pakistan leg spinner Yasir Shah holds the highest score by a number eight batsmen in the ICC World Test Championship. Yasir Shah brought up his only century in Tests against Australia and his 113 run knock comprised of 13 fours.?? He did not get much support from the other end and he managed to take Pakistan to a respectable total. However, Australia won the test easily by an innings and 48 runs.

Rakheem Cornwall:

The big man from West Indies, Rakheem Cornwall recorded the highest score by a number nine batsmen in the ICC World Test Championship with a 73 run knock against Sri Lanka this year. The off-spinner hit 10 fours and one six in the innings and helped West Indies get to a decent total in the first innings in the 2nd test. The match went on to be drawn and the series was drawn in the process too.

Keshav Maharaj:

The South African spinner Keshav Maharaj holds the highest score by a number ten batsmen in the ICC World Test Championship. Maharaj formed an important partnership with Vernon Philander down the order for the ninth wicket against India in the first innings in the second test in Pune and he scored 72 in 132 deliveries with 12 boundaries.

Stuart Broad:

The England seamer Stuart Broad holds the highest score by a number eleven batsman in the ICC World Test Championship. Broad scored 43 in just 28 deliveries with two fours and four sixes against South Africa in the 4th tests at Johannesburg. Broad’s innings helped England get to a respectable total and win the test and the series with a scoreline of 3-1.
