IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Team-Wise List Of Players Who Might Be Retained

The mega auction for IPL 2022 is finally confirmed by BCCI recently and two teams are likely to be added to the tournament as well which is good signs moving forward. The ten-team tournament will open up a lot more opportunities to the youngsters and would increase the duration of the tournament as well.

BCCI has also changed the number of players who can be retained by the franchise from three to four. Out of the four players, the combination could be either three Indian players and one overseas or two domestic players and two overseas players. With an eye on that, here is the team-wise list of players who might be retained.

Team-Wise List Of Players Who Might Be Retained:

Delhi Capitals:

Shreyas Iyer:

Shreyas Iyer has taken the Delhi franchise to greater heights already through his captaincy and batting and was so close to winning their maiden title for the franchise last year after losing it in the finals. He is an important part of the Delhi setup and is likely to continue as the skipper of the side for the next decade or so.

Rishabh Pant:

Rishabh Pant has been in fine form in the last six months including the IPL 2021 where he led the Delhi franchise in absence of Shreyas Iyer and did really well to finish as the table-toppers until the tournament was suspended. He is an all-format player for India at present and will certainly be retained by the franchise.

Prithvi Shaw:

Prithvi Shaw was in scintillating form this season for the Delhi Capitals and finished as the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL 2021. His six fours in the first over against KKR was a testimony of his potential and he will be a player for the Indian future already. His aggressive approach has been a great threat to the opposition in IPL.

Kagiso Rabada:

Kagiso Rabada will be the only overseas player to be retained by the franchise and he has been their highest wicket-taker in the last two seasons of IPL. Rabada won the purple cap last year and he is one of the best fast bowlers in the world at the moment in all formats. He is a certainty to be retained by the franchise.

Rajasthan Royals:

Sanju Samson:

Sanju Samson is the current captain of the Rajasthan Royals franchise and his ability to play those match-winning innings will always keep his value going up. He is with the Indian limited-overs squad for Sri Lanka and is set to contribute a lot for the Indian team as well as for his franchise side.

Kartik Tyagi:

Kartik Tyagi should be the next Indian player that the Royals retain as he has shown that he has the goods to deliver and has already shown his potential in the U-19 Worldcup for India. He also traveled with the Indian squad to Australia as a net bowler and his pace is something that can be worked with in the future.

Jos Buttler:

The English wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler is one of the most destructive T20 players in the world at the moment and he can take the game away from the opponents in a very quick time. He scored his maiden IPL century this season and is expected to hold his place in the side.

Jofra Archer:

Jofra Archer has the X factor in him to take something out of nothing and his ability to swing the ball at some serious pace is a testimony of his prowess. He is also a useful all-rounder down the order and can win games for the franchise with both bat and ball.

Punjab Kings:

KL Rahul:

KL Rahul won the orange cap in the last IPL and is second in the race for the cap this year already. The Punjab skipper is one of the best T20 players in India and has looked in solid touch in the last two years for India in limited-overs as well. He will be the first name to be retained by the franchise.

Mayank Agarwal:

Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul have shared a lot of important partnerships for the franchise and they have one of the best opening combinations already in the tournament. Agarwal has been in and out of the Indian side, but of late he has been showing promising signs and will continue to be retained by the franchise.

Mohammad Shami:

Mohammad Shami will be the Indian fast bowler to be retained by the franchise as he has got the skill and experience to do wonders for the franchise. He is a constant wicket-taker and can hit the yorkers at the right times as well making him the third player to be retained by the franchise.

Riley Meredith:

Riley Meredith is an exciting prospect who showed a great display of fast bowling in the final few games of IPL 2021. He was earlier seen as a middle overs bowler, but once he took the new ball, he looked to be a different bowler who can have a great impact on the side.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

Shubman Gill:

Shubman Gill hasn’t been in the greatest of forms but he is relatively young and he has a long way to go still in his career. He will miss the five-match test series against England owing to an injury but is expected to back for the second phase of IPL 2021. He is defined to be the future of India and will retain his spot in the side.

Varun Chakravarthy:

The next Indian player that has done really well to be retained based on the performances has been Varun Chakravarthy who not only has picked up wickets, but also has been bowling very economically. The mystery spinner is with the Indian squad for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka where he could make his international debut soon.

Andre Russell:

Andre Russell is explosive with the bat and he bludgeons the cricket ball to the extent, that the spectators are even under threat. His six-hitting abilities make him the first choice player to be retained by the franchise and he can win games from nowhere for his side.

Pat Cummins:

Pat Cummins has shown that he has all-rounder skills as well in the IPL 2021 where he bowled and batted really well. He made sure that his expensive price tag was worthy enough and is highly likely to be retained by the franchise as the second overseas player.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Kane Williamson:

Kane Williamson was appointed as the new skipper of the side when David Warner was sacked in the middle of the tournament and the New Zealand skipper is set to continue as the captain in the next seasons as well. Williamson is also one of the most underrated batsmen in the T20s and he can be very effective at the top.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been the leader of the pace attack for the Sunrisers Hyderabad for a long time now and he will continue to be with the number of skill sets he possesses with his variations. He is also very good with the new ball and can hit the yorkers at the death overs.

T Natrajan:

T Natrajan came into the limelight after having a dream IPL season last year for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and earned his maiden call up for the Indian side as well. The left-arm seamer has the ability to hit the yorkers at will which is one of the great assets to have in the side.

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

Virat Kohli:

The Indian skipper Virat Kohli is yet to win an IPL trophy despite playing for the same franchise from the inaugural edition but is still the highest overall run-getter in the tournament and he will continue as the skipper of the franchise. He will have his eyes on the trophy in IPL 2021 as they have got a balanced side this year.

Devdutt Padikkal:

Devdutt Padikkal has been a regular performer for Karnataka in the domestic seasons and had a great start to his IPL career as well. He brought up his first IPL century this year for the RCB side and deserved his call up to the Indian side for the Sri Lanka series.

Mohammad Siraj:

Mohammad Siraj has been doing wonders for every team he has been playing since the last IPL and looks full of confidence to deliver day in and day out. He has been the go-to bowler for his skipper and his powerplay and death bowling has been of the highest order.

AB De Villiers:

AB De Villiers has been very consistent for the RCB franchise in IPL and he is fit as ever still despite retiring from international cricket. He is expected to play few more years of IPL which will be a great advantage for RCB to have him in the side as he is one of the best modern-day batsmen still.

Rohit Sharma has been the most successful captain in the IPL with five titles already and he also has been a giant batsman in Indian cricket for the last five years. He can be a match-winner with the bat as well as his captaincy has been so good that he will certainly be the first name on the sheets.

Ruturaj Gaikwad is one of the upcoming youngsters who had a great IPL last year and followed up with some important knocks this season too.
