Most Overrated XI Of The Current Cricket Generation
Most Overrated XI Of The Current Cricket Generation.

There has always been a set of cricketers who get plenty of chances in the team despite their inconsistent performances and their potential might be a good reason for it. However, they cannot travel with the national team for a long time without performing and they should be set a limit for the opportunities.

Performances and potential might be different at times and they should be assessed in the right way. There have been a lot of players who have fired at the second stage of their careers however, some players do get the overrated tag. Here is the most overrated XI of the current cricket generation.

Most Overrated XI Of The Current Cricket Generation:

Kraigg Braithwaite:

Kraigg Brathwaite has been captaining the West Indies test team at present and despite him featuring regularly for the national side, the 28-year-old has always been very inconsistent and he averages just 33 in 69 tests which is pretty low considering his experience.

He has always had the temperament, but he needs to convert it into a lot more consistent scores.

Liton Das:

Liton Das has always had one of the best techniques from his nation and he does play a lot of shots that can get keep the viewers in awe. The Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman averages under 30 in all the formats so far which is relatively low for a top-order batsman and he has been fairly inconsistent.

He has been picked in the squads though and has been given a long run.

Marnus Labuschagne:

Marnus Labuschagne is an excellent player in test cricket and he averages nearly 60 in the format. However, it is too early to assess his performances in ODI cricket and the 26-year-olds has played 13 ODIs so far scoring 473 runs at an average of less than 40.

He has scored a century but he has been given an opportunity in ODIs based on his performance in tests which is slightly unfair.

Temba Bavuma:

Temba Bavum was appointed as the captain of the South Africa limited-overs team recently and he has done well in the limited opportunities he has got in the limited-overs format.

However, his test numbers have always been under the radar scoring 2097 runs in 44 Tests at an average of 32.3. He has scored just one century so far in tests which isn’t good enough to get into the South African test cricket side

Kusal Mendis:

Kusal Mendis has had a decent record in test cricket with seven centuries and eleven half-centuries in 47 tests at an average of 34.7. However, he has been given a lot of opportunities in ODI cricket and has managed just two centuries in  79 games at an average of 30.1.

However, he has always been backed by the Sri Lankan selectors despite his inconsistency and he needs to come up with more impactful knocks.

Tim Paine(C & WK):

Tim Paine took over the captaincy of the Australian test side after the suspension of Steve Smith and David Warner and he has done really well to put up a fight despite a lot of stars not being available.

His test record is pretty decent averaging 32 but hasn’t scored a century yet while he averages just 27.8 in ODIs which is relatively low for a top-order batsman.

Faheem Ashraf:

Faheem Ashraf has been a good option for Pakistan in tests so far as a medium pace all-rounder. However, he averages just 12.6 in ODI cricket and 11.8 in T20is which is not ideal for a player who has been backed to be the country’s best all-rounder.

His bowling numbers haven’t been that great too averaging nearly 41 in ODI cricket.

Shadab Khan:

Shadab Khan is considered to be one of the better all-rounders from his nation and the leg-spin all-rounder averages 33 with the bat in test cricket which is decent enough.

His ODI numbers haven’t been that great with an average of 25 with the bat and a bowling average of 31 which is not ideal for a wicket-taking option of a leg spinner. He still has a long way to go and needs to assess his performances.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz:

Mehidy Hasan is considered to be an off-spin all-rounder who can bowl with the new ball and the youngster has so far been very inconsistent with both bat and ball.

Mehidy Hasan has a bowling average of nearly 34 in both tests and ODIs and averages just in the 20s with the bat in both formats. He is highly rated by the Bangladesh management and has been a regular feature for his side.

Isuru Udana:

Isuru Udana started his international career at a very young age but couldn’t persist long and made a comeback into the side. Udana averages more than 50 in ODIs while bowling and more than 31 in T20 internationals which means that he has taken wickets very inconsistently.

Despite him being considered as a T20 specialist with his variations, he should have not been picked up again in international cricket.

Tom Curran:

Tom Curran is one of the best T20 players going around in the globe and he has all the variations in his kitty. However, he has had been far too expensive and his economy rate in ODIs has been over six. His T20i economy rate has been 9.31 and the 28-year-old is still one of the backup bowlers for the England limited-overs squad. His batting numbers have been better than his primary role of bowling.
