T20I cricket has evolved both batting and bowling respectively with the emergence of the various leagues across the world. Contributing with the bat has become an important task even for bowlers. While there are players who excel in the format at the club level there have been others who have excelled in the format at the national level as well.

The T20 World Cup is the next major ICC event in 2021 after the World Test Championship final. It will be played in the UAE between October-November later this year. West Indies are the current champions of the tournament and will look to defend their championship as and when the tournament kicks off

In this article, we take a look at the most sixes hit in T20Is by batting position.

Most T20I Sixes By Batting Position

Martin Guptill (136)

The Kiwi opener is amongst the top-five run-getters in the format and has hit 136 sixes at number one. Guptill held the record for being the top scorer in the format for a long time but was overtaken by Virat Kohli. Kohli has 3,159 runs in the format while Guptill is second on 2,939.

Rohit Sharma (113)

Rohit Sharma has hit the most sixes in T20Is by an Indian batsman and he has hit 113 of them at the number two position. Rohit also sits third on the list of highest run-scorers in the format with 2,864 from 111 games. He is the only Indian player to play 100 plus T2OIs as well.

Virat Kohli (58)

A specialist at number three in the limited-overs format, Virat Kohli has hit 58 sixes, the most by any at that position Overall, he is the top-scorer in the format with 3,159 from 90 T20Is. He has 285 fours in the format, the most y any batsman. Kohli will lead India in the T20 World Cup after the World Test Championship final later this year.

Eoin Morgan (70)

Morgan, the England white-ball captain has hit 70 sixes at number four, the most in that position. The Irish-born England cricketer won the 50-over World Cup with England in 2019 and will be eyeing to win the T20 World Cup as well. Morgan is likely to miss the remainder of IPL 2021 for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Morgan has also hit the most number of sixes at number five in T20I cricket. He has 39 maximums at that spot which is the most by any cricketer. He is a very good batsman in the format and someone who plays all-around the ground.

David Miller (26)

South Africa’s David Miller has hit 26 sixes at number six, the most by any batsman in that position. Miller is a T20 globetrotter currently playing in the PSL for Peshawar Zalmi. He is inching closer to 2000 runs in the format.

Elton Chigumbura (25)

Zimbabwean all-rounder Elton Chigumbura finds himself in this elite list of players with the most T20I sixes in different batting positions. He has hit 25 sixes at number seven. Overall, in 56 games Chigumbura has scored 864 runs in the format.

Mashrafe Mortaza (15)

Former Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza holds a unique record of hitting the most number of sixes at number eight. Interestingly, he has hit 15 maximums in that position throughout his career. Overall in 54 games, he has picked up 42 wickets and scored 377 runs.

Umar Gul (9)

Gul, who is better known for his batting has hit nine sixes at number nine, the most by any batsman in that position in the shortest format of the game. Gul played 60 T20Is for Pakistan, the last of which was back in 2016.

Tim Southee (4)

Southee, one of New Zealand’s biggest hopes in the ICC World Test Championship final has hit four sixes batting at number 10. The Kiwi pacer was rested in the second Test against England which the side won by 8 wickets to win the series 1-0. This was their first-ever Test series win in England since 1999.

The Fizz has a couple of sixes at number 11 which helps him make it to this one-of-a-kind list. Bangladesh’s premier bowler in modern cricket, he will miss the second phase of IPL 2021 to be played in the UAE.
