The ICC Test Championship Final is almost knocking on the door. It will be played in Southampton from June 18-22 which will culminate an event that he been played over 2 years. In this article, we will discuss Team India’s Predicted Playing XI for the final. The WTC final between India and New Zealand is a rematch in many ways of the ICC World Cup 2019 semifinal.

Both India and New Zealand played some fantastic cricket to get to the final. New Zealand beat teams like India, West Indies, and Pakistan to reach the finals. They became the first team to reach the final after Australia postponed their tour to South Africa over COVID-19 concerns. India, on the other hand, beat teams like England and Australia to get to the final.

Rohit Sharma is one of the two players to score over 1000 runs in the competition. He will be open the batting for India in the final. Previously he has played just one Test match in England way back in 2014. However, Rohit is a much-improved Test batsman than he was back then. He will be expected to give India a good start in the final against the likes of Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and Neil Wagner.

Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill will open alongside Rohit Sharma in the final. He had a good series against Australia which has prompted the selectors to include him in India’s squad for the final. Coping up with the conditions will be a challenge for the youngster. He batted well in testing conditions in Australia. Thus Rohit and Gill are the two openers in India’s Predicted Playing XI lineup.

Cheteshwar Pujara

Pujara is probably the most important Indian batsman for the final. He will be expected to hold one end up so that others can score freely from the other. Kiwi bowlers will be well aware of the threat of Pujara if they do not dismiss him early. He has scored 818 runs in the tournament so far.

Virat Kohli

Indian skipper Virat Kohli follows at the number for in India’s Predicted Playing XI line-up. He will lead India on his 61st Test as captain in search of his maiden ICC title. He is on 877 runs from 14 matches in the tournament. His record in England has been phenomenal since the 2014 England tour where he scored just 134 runs in the Test series.

Ajinkya Rahane

Rahane has played over 50 Tests under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. He is the vice-captain of the side and one of the Indian batsmen with a good record in England. He has a Test ton at Lords back in 2014. He also is India’s highest run-scorer ( in the WTC campaign and one of India’s most under-rated cricketers. Rahane will slot in at five in the final.

Rishabh Pant (WK)

Pant was India’s find throughout this championship campaign. He has developed tremendously as a batsman and keeper and will be the first-choice gloveman for the final. Pant has scored 662 runs in the campaign with a ton and four fifties which included two scores of 90-plus. This completes the top 6 of the Predicted Playing XI lineup.

Ravindra Jadeja

India should ideally gon with two spinners and Jadeja should be one of them. He is a part of the predicted playing XI line-up. He took 28 wickets in the WTC campaign and scored over 400 runs with the bat. His fielding skills are also what makes him an absolute must in the playing XI.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin makes his place in the side as the second spinner. He has picked up 67 wickets in the tournament, the most after Pat Cummins’ 70. He has a chance to end as the leading wicket-taker if he bowls well in the final. He has batted better in the last few Test matches.

Shami is one of the three pacers India should go within this final. The swinging conditions of Southampton should give Shami enough confidence to e amongst the wickets. He was injured in the Australia series after the first Test. However, now he is back to full-fitness and one of India’s most potent options with the ball.

Ishant Sharma

Ishant’s prior experience of playing in England should give him a place in the XI ahead of the likes of Mohammed Siraj or Shardul Thakur. He is fondly remembered for his spell of 7/70 against England at Lord’s back in 2014 where he bounced out the opposition batters.

Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah is the final inclusion in India’s Predicted Playing XI line-up for the final. This is the strongest outfield that can challenge the Kiwis in the WTC final in 10 days.

Meanwhile, the Kiwis are getting themselves adjusted to the playing conditions in England courtesy of their two-match Test series against England. The first match in Edgbaston ended in a draw.
