Punjab Kings have been part of the Indian Premier League since its debut edition in IPL 2008 and have played all in all the 14 seasons of the tournament. Punjab Kings was earlier known as Kings XI Punjab and changed its name in IPL 2021. Out of 13 seasons excluding IPL 2021, the franchise have managed to reach playoffs on only two occasions. In IPL 2008, Punjab Kings lost in the semi-final while in IPL 2014, the franchise lost the final to Kolkata Knight Riders.

So far 12 players have led Punjab Kings in IPL. Yuvraj Singh, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Adam Gilchrist, David Hussey, George Bailey, Virender Sehwag, David Miller, Murali Vijay, Glenn Maxwell, and Ravichandran Ashwin have led the team in the past. Since IPL 2020, KL Rahul has led the franchise. Punjab Kings have played a total of 198 matches in 14 editions so far, scoring 31,259 runs at an average of 2309 runs per season. Yuvraj Singh led Punjab Kings in IPL 2008. The team entered the semi-final after finishing 3rd on the points table. They lost to Chennai Super Kings in the semi-final. The team played 15 matches in the tournament, out of which they won 10 and lost 5. The team scored 2464 runs in the season. Shaun Marsh was the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 616 runs in 11 innings.

IPL 2009

Yuvraj Singh again led the franchise in the 2nd edition of the tournament in 2009. Punjab Kings finished on the 5th spot in the points table and did not qualify for playoffs. Out of 14 matches, they won 7 games and lost 7. The Yuvraj Singh and boys smashed 1928 runs in the tournament. Skipper Yuvraj Singh smashed 340 runs in 14 innings and was the highest run-getter for his team.

IPL 2010

The team was led by Kumar Sangakkara in IPL 2010. The team finished on the last 8th spot in the points table after the group stage. They won just 3 matches and lost 10 after playing 14 matches. One match ended with no result.  They accounted for 2278 runs in the season. Mahela Jayawardene emerged as the team’s highest run-scorer with 439 runs in 13 innings.

Adam Gilchrist led the team in IPL 2011. The team couldn’t qualify for playoffs after finishing on the 5th spot in the points table out of 10 teams. The Adam Gilchrist-led side played 14 matches in the season, winning 7 and losing 7. The team piled up 2224 runs in the season. Shaun Marsh was the team’s highest run-scorer with 504 runs in 13 innings. Paul Valthaty followed him on the 2nd spot with 463 runs in 14 innings.

In IPL 2012, Punjab Kings finished on the 6th spot in the points table. Hence, they could not secure a berth in the playoffs. Out of 16 matches, the team won 8 games and lost 8. The team hit 2390 runs in the season. With 432 runs in 16 innings, Mandeep Singh emerged as the top run-scorer for the team. David Hussey scored 396 runs in 15 innings.

The franchise again finished on the 6th spot in the points table in IPL 2013 and failed to qualify for playoffs. Out of 16 matches, they won 8 games and lost 8. Punjab Kings managed to score 2428 runs in the season. David Miller was the team’s highest run-scorer with 418 runs in 12 innings.

In IPL 2014, George Bailey led the team in the tournament. This time, Punjab Kings showed a magnificent performance and reached the final where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. Out of 17 matches in the season, the George Bailey-led side won 12 matches and lost 5. They piled up 2987 runs in the season, most than any other team. Glenn Maxwell was the team’s highest run-scorer with 552 runs in 16 innings. He was the 3rd highest run-scorer overall.

In IPL 2015, the team finished on the last 8th spot. The franchise played 14 matches in the tournament, winning just 3 and losing 10 while 1 game ended in with no result. The team smashed 2003 runs in the tournament. David Miller emerged as the highest run-getter for the team with 357 runs in 13 innings.

David Miller led the team in the first 6 matches in IPL 2016 while Murali Vijay was the skipper in the rest 8 games. The team finished on the last 8th spot in the points table. They played 14 games in the season, out of which they emerged winners in 4 matches and faced defeat in 10 games. The team piled up 2134 runs in the tournament. Murali Vijay was the team’s highest run-scorer with 453 runs in 14 matches.

KL Rahul was the team’s highest run-getter and 3rd highest overall with 659 runs in 14 innings.

With Ravichandran Ashwin as the skipper, the team played 14 matches, winning 6 and losing 8. The team scored 2429 runs in the season. KL Rahul was the highest run-scorer for the team and 2nd highest overall with 593 runs in 14 innings.

KL Rahul was the captain of Punjab Kings in IPL 2020. This time too, the team could not qualify for playoffs as they finished on the 6th spot in the points table after the group stage. Out of 14 games, the KL Rahul-led side managed victories in 6 games while losing 8. In the tournament, the team smashed 2335 runs. KL Rahul finished as the highest run-scorer of the team as well as the tournament with 670 runs in 14 innings.

In IPL 2021, Punjab Kings won 3 matches and lost 5 out of 8 before the tournament got postponed. The franchise was placed on the 6th spot in the points table. The team scored 1242 runs in the season. KL Rahul was the team’s highest run-scorer with 331 runs in 7 innings. He was the 2nd highest run-scorer overall.
