England opener Zak Crawley scored his second Test ton which powered his team to a favourable position at the end of day 4 of the first Test in Antigua. Crawley is unbeaten on 117 as the visitors have scored 217/1 leading by 153 runs against West Indies.

Zak Crawley scored a 200 against Pakistan in 2020. His innings ended at 267. However, the Tests match ended in a draw. However, he stamped his authority in the Test match and showcased his batting skills. Since then, he has had a hard time in Test cricket. Against India at home and against Australia in the Ashes, runs dried up from Crawley’s bat. He even failed to reach double figures in 11 of his last 16 innings in Test cricket.

“It means an awful lot,” Crawley, 24, said after ending the day unbeaten on 117 as England earned an overall lead of 153 runs at the end of day 4. He added a 193-run stand with skipper Joe Root to put England in a position of strength.

“It’s been a while since my first ton and there were times last year when I didn’t think I’d get (another) so I’m very pleased with the performance and pleased with the position we’re in” he further added.

Crawley also spoke about the advice he got from Root during their partnership. His fellow opener Alex Lees fell for just 6.

“He was telling me to stay concentrated and we just had to weather those storms (of good bowling) and come back and score more freely at times,” Crawley said.

Earlier in the game, England were bowled out for 311 in their first innings. Jonny Bairstow (140) almost single-handedly took England over 300. Windies in return scored 375 in their first innings with Nkrumah Bonner (123) scoring his second Tets ton. With the final day’s play left, the second Test match looks to end in a stalemate.
