AB de Villiers Lauds 'Calm And Composed' Shreyas Iyer; Compares Him To Shubman Gill Ahead Of ICC World Cup 2023

Former South African batter AB de Villiers expressed his admiration for middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, and said that he loves to watch him bat. AB de Villiers also drew a comparison between Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Shreyas Iyer has been a crucial member of the Indian cricket team in the 50-over format. The right-handed batter secured his spot at No. 3 before being sidelined due to a back injury. He made his return to the field during the recent edition of the Asia Cup.

The 28-year-old suffered back spasms after playing two matches in the continental event. He missed the Super Four matches and the final of the tournament. However, he made a strong comeback against Australia, scoring a brilliant hundred during the second ODI.

AB de Villiers highlighted Shreyas Iyer‘s composure and calmness while batting and compared his batting style to Shubman Gill.

“I love watching Shreyas Iyer bat. I love what he does in the middle, always composed, very calm, and reminds me of Shubman Gill,” said De Villiers.

Shubman Gill has been going through the form of his life, scoring 1230 runs in 20 matches at an impressive average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.04 this year. He has smashed five centuries and five half-centuries, with his best score being 208 against New Zealand.
