Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh lauded his teammate Glenn Maxwell for his brilliant bowling performance during the third ODI against India. Mitchell Marsh emphasized that Glenn Maxwell will play a vital role for the team in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023.
Australia set up a target of 353 runs for India in Rajkot on Wednesday, September 27. David Warner (56) and Mitchell Marsh (96), Steve Smith (74) and Marnus Labuschagne (72) scored half-centuries. The Australian bowlers bundled out the opposition team for 286 runs.
Great To See Glenn Maxwell Back – Mitchell Marsh
During the press conference following Australia’s 66-run victory in the third ODI, Mitchell Marsh emphasized the importance of Glenn Maxwell‘s role as a spin-bowling all-rounder at the World Cup in Indian conditions.
“For (Maxwell) to come back after not playing much cricket over the last month, it was great to see him back. It’s massive what he brings to our team from a balance perspective,” Marsh told reporters.
“We obviously know that his batting is absolute class, but what he can do with the ball and the options that he’ll give us with our allrounders is vital to us going deep into the World Cup, so it was outstanding having him back.”
Glenn Maxwell Is The Third Spinner For Us – Mitchell Marsh
The Australian opener highlighted Glenn Maxwell’s presence as the third spinner could allow the team to field three fast bowlers in the World Cup.
“There may be wickets where he is the third spinner for us throughout this World Cup but just the ability for us to play the three quicks and a spinner and have ‘Maxi’ who has the ability on the right day to bowl 10 overs (is important).”
“It gives you a lot of flexibility with the teams that you can pick or the way you can structure up your batting line up,” he further added.
Australia can make changes to their preliminary 15-player squad by the end of today, keeping in mind the September 28 deadline for announcing the final squad. They will play two warm-up games against the Netherlands and Pakistan before the World Cup.
